Chuck & Lynda Gumeson (22459)
Colorado State Directors & Colorado Krusin Aires Presidents
Chuck & I are now the Colorado State Directors in addition to being the Presidents of the Colorado Kruisin Aires! We were honored to have been asked to take over the job of State Directors from Pat & Marilyn Gaffney who had to step down this fall. This is a tall order as we are still currently the Presidents for the one Colorado Chapter of NKK, the Colorado Kruisin Aires. We have loved trying to grow the chapter and getting to know so many great new folks. But we also knew there was a need for someone to try and step into Pat & Marilyn’s shoes! So, here we are, and I am certain we will get lots of help from all of our terrific chapter members to make this an easy transition.
Hopefully, one of our chapter members would like to work along with us and eventually take over our position. In the meantime, we are committed to doing both of these jobs to the very best of our abilities.
We have now planned for our rally in June to be a combined rally for the Colorado State Rally and the Colorado Kruisin Aires Rally. This rally is planned for Durango and the arrival date will be Monday, June 19th and departure on Thursday, June 22. We have tried to work with the Alpen Rose RV Park to add additional sites so that we can accommodate more than the current 18 sites. This has proven to be quite a challenge, but if this does work out, we will again be able to open up the registration for additional folks. Please, if you would like to join us, contact us and we will put your names on our waitlist. We currently have just one on our waitlist. For the past two rallies, we have had cancelations and no one to fill those cancelations! So let us put you on our list, and you may get lucky! We usually have 10-13 coaches at our rallies and this one sold out instantly with 18 coaches. Keep checking the Newmar Kountry Klub Events Calendar for June to see if we get more sites for the Durango rally.
Our goal is to have one Colorado State Rally each year, and for the Chapter to have one rally each year. This year a combination rally was necessary since just Chuck & I were planning both of the rallies for 2023. We do have some great ideas for locations for the following calendar year so stay tuned! And a big, huge thank you for all of our great and supportive chapter members who have offered to help with activities and food at the rallies. This will make a huge difference for us in allowing us to hold an additional rally at some point.
Michelle & Rick Haugen have taken over the planning of the activities for the Durango rally. Thank you guys! They have planned an historic tour of Durango, and a railroad museum tour. They have also planned a tour of La Plata Canyon, via an open air 4X4 vehicle with a guide giving the history and geology of this area and of the San Juan mountains. We will attend the Bar D Chuckwagon dinner with western entertainment. We will most likely be going to another local restaurant for another sampling of dinner menus in the area.
There are many other activities available in the Durango area that might warrant an additional day or two. The most famous one being the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train. Of course, of further note would be Mesa Verde National Park which can be reached just 37 miles from the town of Durango.
Chuck & I have the Magic Bus parked in its little garage space to try and keep it warm and toasty until we take off in mid-March for Arizona and then onto an adventure in the Southeast.
We’ll keep you posted! Lots of our members are snowbirding in Arizona, Texas and Florida and we wish everyone happy travels and a warm vibe for the winter months. We will be here in Colorado actually trying to enjoy the snow! We head to Winter Park every Wednesday until we depart for Arizona.
