Washington Evergreen Aires – Presidents
Greetings from the Evergreen Aires! It’s hard to believe we are already looking at the end of summer. We spent most of the summer up in the in the Pacific Northwest spending quality time with friends and family here.
The Evergreen Aires Chapter Rally was held in beautiful Sequim, Washington. We ended up with 17 coaches in attendance. Originally, we had limited the rally to 15 sites, but the park was able to provide a couple more sites so we could include those on the wait list. Sequim is located between Port Townsend and Port Angeles on the Washington Olympic Peninsula. It was a beautiful location. We had great weather considering summer doesn’t typically start here in the PNW until July 5th. We took a guided tour of the Port Angeles Underground and learned the history of the city; it was very informative. Due to flooding concerns in the early 1900s, the citizens of Port Angeles worked out an incredible plan to elevate the city’s downtown streets, creating a network of underground tunnels and storefronts. In this unbelievable feat of engineering many older buildings were lost, but a select few remain. The tour began with a fascinating explanation of the history of the city and the tactics used to raise the city streets in 1914. We took a short stroll through downtown Port Angeles to visit rediscovered basements and long-forgotten tunnels during the underground portion of the tour. We stopped in at the city’s original movie theatre, and into the hidden brothel above the unassuming family shoe store. They completed the project in 6 months!
Another rally event was the 3rd annual Evergreen Aires Corn Hole Tournament! Last year’s champion, Ben & Donna Barker battled the newcomers, Dave & Rae Anne Sheets in the final match. Although it was a close match the newcomers held off the former champs to claim the coveted first place ribbons. Congratulations to the new Champions, Rae Anne & Dana Sheets!
If all goes as planned, we plan to visit the Kelowna region of Canada for a few weeks to tour the Canadian wineries in August.
Don’t forget about the Washington State Rally near Spokane, Washington on September 6th-10th at the Northern Quest Casino RV Park. The timing is perfect to then head to the International Rally on September 30th in Sedalia, Missouri.
Fall is fast approaching, and I am sure everyone is making their fall/winter travel plans. We wish you happy and safe travels. We can be reached at 360-399-0090.
