Spike & Kay Kramer (18573-L) – Incoming Presidents
Our wonderful rally host’s Burl & Maureen Todd selected Smokiam RV Resort in Soap Lake, Washington for our 2024 chapter rally location. Just so happens that Smokiam RV Resort has several various sized Teepee’s for those that want to do some glamping. During the meet and greet portion of the rally several people asked if they could look inside of one of the Teepee’s that was unoccupied, the resort staff graciously set up a time for the group to tour one of the Teepee’s. As you can see in the above picture, they were very spacious, set on a concrete slab, with outside fire pits, picnic tables and chairs, air conditioned inside with small refrigerators, indoor lighting and electricity, no running water. Kinda cool idea to cater to a different crowd.
Our rally was attended by fourteen units of all sizes and models, with great social hours, tours and special events. We crowned new Corn Hole Champions (Burl and Maureen Todd), toured the Grant County Historical Museum in Ephrata, Washington, and had one day to tour the area on our own. It was an excellent location for those of us who live on the west side of the Cascade Mountains who are stuck with springtime marine layers off the Pacific Ocean which means cool temperatures and overcast skies. We were treated to temperatures in the upper 70’s and 80’s with sunny skies, which is always a plus this time of year for us. Our annual business meeting was held with officer elections, we (Kay & Spike Kramer) were elected to replace existing Presidents Terry & Terri Roberts who have been appointed Region 2 Directors. Vice President position will remain filled by Pam & Rob Robinson. The Secretary/Treasurer Position was split apart with Dianne & Dave Dickson filling the Secretary position. Maureen & Burl Todd will remain in the Treasurers position. The outgoing Region 2 Directors (Kay & I) took a moment to present five (5) time rally host bars to Maureen & Burl Todd and Donna & Ben Barker. Also, Terry & Terri Roberts were recognized for their contributions as Presidents of the Evergreen Aires for the past four (4) years, and for their appointment as Region 2 Directors for the next three (3) years. Our rally was capped off on Wednesday evening by a “movie on the green” shown by the campground staff which also provided the popcorn, candy, and beverages. The Long Long Trailer staring Lucille Ball and Desi Anez was the feature presentation which was enjoyed by all who attended.
Smokiam RV Resort is in arid central Washington in Grant County and was mainly a ranching area when first settled in the late 1800’s. The Columbia Basin Project, which led to the building of Grand Coulee Dam, transformed the area into a dryland farming area due to access to the water storage provided by the Columbia River for irrigation. Today it is the largest potato producing county in the Nation, and the #1 crop producing county in Washington State, as you guess potatoes and hay are the main crops.
We will continue with the established policy of rotating the location of our Chapter Rallies between the west and east side of the Cascade Mountains, so our 2025 rally will be on the west side. Once the schedule for 2025 International Rally is available, we will begin the planning process for our 2025 Chapter Rally. We have already passed around some interesting possibilities. If someone is interested in volunteering to be a Rally Host or Co-Host, please contact any of the Chapter Officers, we would be happy to have you participate in this process.
Congratulations are in order to our newly elected Chapter Officers and newly appointed Region 2 Directors. If you are interested in attending either the Oregon State Rally, or the Combined Region 2/ Washington State rally contact the rally hosts. Some additional spots have been added to the Region 2/ Washington State Rally.
