Mike and Kathy have been RVing for about 10 years and have been the proud owners of three Dutch Star Newmars. In those 10 years they have managed to travel to 46 of the contiguous 48 states and have enjoyed making friends and seeing beautiful sites in all of them.
They are both retired from the Fire Service. Mike spent five years with the Bellaire Fire Department and 33 years with the Houston Fire Department, retiring in 2006 as an Engineer/Operator. After his retirement he spent seven years as a contract instructor for Siddons Martin Fire Apparatus. He traveled three states, providing training to fire departments after they had purchased a new fire truck. Kathy also worked in the fire service, beginning with the Jersey Village Fire Department where she became Chief in 1991. She served in that position until 2007 when she took the Chief’s job for the city of Rosenberg. She retired from that position after 5 ½ years.
Both Mike and Kathy have been very active in teaching in their careers and each of them served as instructors for the Texas A & M fire school for more than 30 years.
In his spare time, Mike loves to cook and try new recipes. He has compiled a cookbook with many of his favorites as well as favorites from friends. It has not been published but currently includes several thousand recipes. While Mike gathers the recipes, Kathy is usually the cook. Any new recipe gets a “thumbs up” before it is included in the cookbook. Kathy loves to garden. She says her best therapy is pulling weeds. Both are active in the First Baptist Church of Sweeny.
Mike and Kathy have four sons and daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. All of them currently live in Texas.
