Bill & Beth White (20471)
West Virginia State Directors/West Virginia Traveling Mountaineers
It’s the end of February and we haven’t had any snow! A few cold days and a couple of days when we had a dusting of the white stuff, but overall, it’s been an easy winter in Jane Lew. Our only issue has been a lot of rain which has slowed the beginning work on the new house.
We have been working hard to finish the details of our West Virginia State Rally which will be held on June 8-11, at Milan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia. The first evening we will have a catered dinner, followed by attending a semi-pro baseball game at the new Morgantown Black Bear Stadium. The Black Bears are a major draft league team where prospective players show their skills to scouts who attend all of their games. This will be the season opener for the team, playing the Williamsport Crosscutters from Pennsylvania. Should be a great rival game and lots of fun.
We plan to travel to Arthurdale, which is the first of the planned communities sponsored by the New Deal under Franklin D. Roosevelt’s administration. Arthurdale was the pet project of Eleanor Roosevelt, FDR’s wife; and her experiment in collective living. We will tour several museums on site and enjoy a home cooked meal. That evening we will attend a concert at WVU.
No West Virginia State Rally would be complete without a traditional ramp dinner; think cornbread and bean dinner with fried potatoes and ramps on the side. You can count on having time to visit, games, and fabulous prizes.
On Saturday participants will have the choice of several local attractions including restaurants, a farmer’s market, museums, shopping, and many other local attractions.
If you would like to attend, the cutoff date for participation is May 1. There are a limited number of camping sites, so it’s first come, first served. Sign up on the NKK Website, https://newmarkountryklub.com/event/west-virginia-state-rally/ and call Bill at 304-871-7330 to reserve your campsite.
Beth & I hope everyone is doing well and we’ll see you down the road. God Bless you all.
