We have recently had Dogwoods and Redbuds in bloom. This is a sign that Crappie was going to be nesting or coming off the nest. White bass would start their run. That would signal that it was time to get the RV out and go to the Lake. Thus, the camping season had started.
We would go to the lake on Thursdays, taking Friday off from work. There would be four of my brother in laws and two friends in attendance. Looking back in time we should call it a rally. Thursday night we would have hot dogs over the fire. One of my brothers in laws had a secret recipe for coney sauce. He worked at IBM and a coworker from New York City got this recipe from a Hotel in New York who had a patient on the recipe. He had promised not to ever share it with anyone. It was delicious. Friday night was Hamburger night. The burgers were cooked over an open fire on an old rack out of an oven. Saturday night we cooked fish that we had caught in an old cast iron skillet. We used hog lard and coated the fish with white corn meal. We went home Sunday and went to work on Monday. Looking back, we had a great time.
I hope you have started your camping season and are having an enjoyable time. Happy Trails. We can be reached by email: rdenn6178@aol.com.
