Indiana State Directors
The camping and rally season is upon us in Indiana and we need to get the rigs out of winter storage and drain the “pink stuff” out and put the bleach or chlorine or whatever into the water tank and the water lines. De-winterization is not a pleasant task, but it does get us fired up and ready to let the ol’ Newmar roll.
Our season in Indiana is going to kick-off with the Tri-State (Michigan, Ohio and Indiana) Rally at the Shipshewana South campground May 25-29, hosted by Kathy Morren, President of the Michigan Great Lakers. Kathy has posted rally information on the Newmar website and in the previous issue of the Legacy magazine. We think this promises to be a great rally and a lot of fun for the attendees (we’re gonna be there!). Contact Kathy via diamondtack@sbcglobal.net.
The Indiana State Rally will be at the CERAland Park and Campground in Columbus, Indiana, June 22-25. Campground reservations for the rally are still available. Our block of sites is to be released on May 22, but it looks like we will use all 20 sites. The campground is large and they tell us there will be sites available after our cut-off date. They may not be located with our block, but they will be available and not too far away. All of our sites are to be 50 Amp, Full Hook Up. When contacting CERAland, refer to the Newmar Kountry Klub Rally and Group Reservation Number 1432. Reservations are to be made at: CERALAND@CERALAND.ORG or by calling 812-377-5849. Mention Newmar Kountry Klub with your reservation request. Each rally reservation includes two (2) passes for unlimited use of the Aquatic Center, Sports and Fitness Center and the Miniature Golf Course. CERAland also offers Frisbee Golf, a Golf Driving Range, Trap & Skeet Shooting on Saturdays and lots of paved streets for bike riders.
Rally registration can be done on the NKK Website in Klub Calendar / All Events / Region Six / Indiana State Rally; fill out the individual information form and submit – BOOM! You are registered. Or, you can register via email to pdthornbg@aol.com.
Columbus is the home of Cummins Inc., manufacturer of diesel engines since 1919. Columbus is famous for its architecture and art and there are paid tours available through the Columbus Visitors Center. There are a number of museums in the area and lots of shopping opportunities such as the Edinburgh Premier Outlet Mall in nearby Edinburgh and even a Pickers’ Paradise flea market and antique mall in Columbus. And, there is a circa 1900 vintage ice cream parlor with many of the original fixtures and décor still intact – a step back in time. (The ice cream is fresh….) And the nearby Edinburgh Diner boasts the Largest Breaded Tenderloin in Indiana.
A couple of thoughts from the world of RV maintenance…
Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch, and you will have to pee.
Law of Gravity: Any tool, nut, bolt or screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible place in the universe.
We’re hoping for a very busy camping season with several rallies and a lot of opportunities to see and hang out with friends, both Newmar and other groups.
We look forward to seeing you all soon and frequently. Travel safely and stay safe. We can be contacted by email: sthornbg@aol.com or pdthornbg@aol.com, or telephone 574-329-9188.
