New York State Directors
Decisions, decisions! Planning our annual state rally has lots of decisions, only because New York has so much to offer in such a variety of geographic locations. Then, making your plans to attend causes another set of decisions: arrive earlier or stay later, or do both! There is just so much more to see and do along the way.
Last year we chose the Thousand Islands area using Swan Bay as our base camp. Those of you who have been there know why it should be on everyone’s bucket list. For example, watching ocean-going ships glide by your campsite or restaurant patio is worth at least a dozen shots on your phone’s camera.
For 2023, the location chosen was 120 miles south, nearer the center of the state at the Villages RV Park, Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. Again, more decisions! What to do, what to leave out. Attendees could choose to stay put and enjoy taking their chances at being lucky, or venture afield a bit. We kept most of the opportunities at being a tourist on the “a-la-carte” list, but since the world-famous Erie Canal was at our doorstep, a canal tour boat ride was included in the rally; no better way to kick back and take it all in. Also, since more of us are bringing our bikes along, the Mohawk River Bikeway provided a great opportunity for taking in the scenery as well as burning calories to make room for more food!
Next year’s State Rally will be either in the Catskills or the Finger Lakes regions. Again, each area is unique with a wide-ranging choice of opportunities to enjoy. Naturally, we too often ignore the beauty of what is in our own backyards to travel far and wide (NKK International in Sedalia?). Consider this an open invitation to all with a Newmar coach to come and sample the amazing places that are New York.
