Hawaii Aloha Aires Chapter – Presidents
We are back in the heat of south Texas, missing our island trade winds that keep the weather so pleasant in Hawaii. By the time you read this, we should all be gathering in the cool Colorado weather in Pueblo. We’re so looking forward to seeing many old friends and making new ones. And our NKK staff and leaders have planned incredible adventures for us there.
Our annual chapter meeting is scheduled for August 1 from 11-11:50 am in the Explore Colorado Building. George has been president and I have been secretary for two years, so it is time to elect new officers. The NKK bylaws state that the chapter president must have their address in that state. We don’t know if any other members can meet that requirement, but if you do and would like to be president, please let us know. Also, I will be happy to relinquish secretary duties to someone new. It’s an easy role: take minutes at the annual meeting and distribute by email; coordinate with the treasurer to maintain the membership data base.
We are looking forward to our mainland rally which will be held following the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. From August 3-6, we will be in Chama, New Mexico, which is about four hours south of Pueblo. Our campground hosts at Sky Mountain Resort in Chama, New Mexico, have opened a few more sites for us, and are open for reservations at skymountain.com. We are planning a ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This is a National Historic Landmark; the longest, highest, and most authentic steam railroad in North America. You will zigzag across the border of Colorado and New Mexico through the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We’ll have lunch at the halfway point while the train takes on fuel and water. We are looking into local restaurants for a sit-down meal together. There will also be time for off-road Jeeps, fishing, shared meals, and fellowship around the campfire. There are still some open spaces for the Hawaiian Islands NKK cruise on Feb 22 – March 1, 2025. You can invite family and friends to join you on this reasonably priced cruise. The Aloha Aires chapter is the host with Peggy Schaffer from SkyMed Travel doing the coordination with Norwegian Cruise Lines. She is planning several special activities for our members and guests only. Since we have an overnight stop on Kauai, we would love to show you our new home so you can see what life is like away from the tourist activities.
