Chuck & Lynda Gumeson (22459)
Colorado State Directors and Kruisin Aires Presidents
We are back in Centennial, Colorado now after an action-packed summer and fall of travel and rallies. We had a wonderful time in Sedalia at the NKK International and we got to meet many of our fellow travelers. We had a gathering there where we joined with the New Mexico Chili Peppers and enjoyed a pizza dinner and scrumptious desserts provided by both of our chapters. It was a fine opportunity to get new members and mingle with our southern neighbors. Thank you to Cindy & Phil Newman who really know how to throw a party and host an event! Be sure to attend one of their awesome rallies in 2024.
We had such a nice surprise while we were camped at one of our favorite RV parks near Traverse City, Michigan. The Michigan Aires and Great Lakers came to visit us! Unbeknownst to us, these two NKK chapters had scheduled to rally in the very campground were camped in. Naturally, when we found this out, we joined their rally. It was great fun, and our friends Diana & Paul Hugo hosted a wonderfully fun event right in our own backyard! They put on a great rally and the food was super amazing, and we enjoyed sitting around the campfire in the evenings getting an opportunity to meet new friends from Michigan (and Ohio!).
The Kruisin Aires will be hosting their chapter rally in Palisade, Colorado at the Colorado Basecamp RV Park. Arrival will be on Monday June 10th for a 3-night event. We are putting together lots of details but no doubt it will include a tour of some of the wineries in the area and perhaps a drive up to the Colorado National Monument. The weather in this part of Colorado tends to be a bit warmer and drier than the mountain peaks and valleys, so we are hoping that not having an indoor event center will not be an issue! There is a nice large, covered pavilion, however.
Plans are also in progress to hold our Colorado State Rally up in the beautiful area of Grand County in Granby. This rally will be held at the Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains with arrival on September 10 for a 4-night event. River Run Sun Outdoors features nice level concrete pads and many beautiful amenities in a high mountain location of about 8,500 ft. elevation above sea level. This RV resort is only about 20 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park and September is the start of the rut season in the park. At this time of the year, you might decide to search out the elk bugling in the early evenings. You might also likely plan an activity up toward the quaint western town of Grand Lake. As long as the snow stays away, a drive over Trail Ridge Road could be a side trip you might enjoy. Of course, at over 12,000 ft. in elevation, it is one you will only want to take in your tow vehicle! A 48-mile drive over this road will take you to the tourist town of Estes Park. On the other hand, the visitor center at the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is a nice place to visit (without having to drive over the Trail Ridge Road) and it features a small store and museum with lots of information about the area and this center is close to the town of Grand Lake.
We are excited to be showing off our beautiful mountain communities so keep an eye out for this event on the Klub Calendar. You will definitely want to bring along a jacket and a sweatshirt for this rally! The temperatures can dip down into the 40’s in the evenings, but the air is so crisp and clean and delightfully “Colorado”!
You might want to consider joining one of our events. Of course, be sure to mark your calendars for the NKK International to be held in Pueblo, Colorado next year. We will hope to see lots of our Newmar friends there!
Happy Holiday season to all of you folks headed south for the winter and to be visiting climates. We will no doubt be enjoying our time on the ski slopes of Colorado and slogging through the snow and slippery roads. But we love it!
See you down the road somewhere from sea to shining sea!
