California State Directors
Greetings fellow Newmar owners. It is I. Your utterly fantastic California State Director coming to you live from Burlingame State Park in Charlestown, Rhode Island. What, I am not in California? Yes, I do get released once in a blue moon to travel this wonderful and exciting nation. But more of this travel talk later, so as I usually start off, the beautiful blond one and “The mother-in-law” who is traveling with us, hope and pray all is well with you, your loved ones and anyone else you wish good health to.
Now back to my current travel. We left the Golden State on April 9, and headed east on Interstate 10. To head towards Maine to start a RV tour of Gaspe’ and the Atlantic Provinces. We didn’t do much sightseeing along I-10 until we passed the I-10 and I-20 split in Texas. After the split we continued I-10. We stopped and visited the Johnson Space Center, drove to the Galveston to view the Gulf of Mexico, and ate our way across Texas. I had told Teresa I wanted a good Texas steak. Well, she asked several ladies in Cedar Creek, Texas at one of our campgrounds stops, where do we find a good steak. Both ladies said Roadhouse in Bastrop, Texas (not Texas Roadhouse). So, we ventured out, stopped at our first Buc-ees fuel store prior to Roadhouse. We almost did get out of Buc-ees because they have everything you would want for a road trip. Anyway, we found the Roadhouse, nothing fancy to look at from the outside or inside, but we had the most delicious, tender, and juicy rib-eye steak we ever had. WOW, a must stop if you’re in the area. Ok, as we continued across I-10, we toured an old plantation in Baton Rouge area and ate mudbugs! What bugs? No, it a cajon term people use for crawfish. The ladies who taught us how to properly eat them had that southern Louisiana drawl and described how they boil them first. I had a hard time understanding “boil” part, but we ate the mudbugs. Hurray for us, but it was first time and now last time!
So now after eating our way across Texas and Louisiana, we slowed the eating part but continued our tourist tour of the southern parts of our nation that in seven years of RVing, we had not been to. Places like Gulfport/ Biloxi, Mississippi, Mobile, Alabama and the pan handle of Florida. Wonderful places to visit, but this California boy does not like humidity. So, after the Florida panhandle we turned north to Atlanta, Georgia, we visited family for a few days, drove to Seneca, South Carolina to visit a high school friend, stopped in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to see more family and attend our great niece high school graduation. And so, our travel continued north until our current stop in Rhode Island. I will talk more on my next article and let you know what exciting major accomplishment news we have.
So now the Newmar stuff. Since we are traveling this year, we missed the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. I know everyone one who attended had a great time because it was hosted by our new International Directors, Duane & Lorie. So, I look forward to the 2025 International Rally and we will hopefully attend.
As for the three California NKK chapters, look up the dates for their rallies in 2025 and join us in California. A great time is always had by all at these events and I’m sure you will enjoy them to.
Hey, it is now time for me to go. I must continue my way north to make the tour and I know you will be waiting in high anticipation of what our major exciting news will be. Until next article, stay healthy, stay safe and keep those beautiful Newmar coaches rolling along our highways.
