As we head into the “dog days” of summer in Florida, many of our members have headed to cooler parts of the country to visit family & friends, or just to escape the Florida heat and thunderstorms. Geoff & I are preparing for another “RV trip” in the UK in September for our first grandson’s Wedding in Wales. We will take the opportunity to return to Ireland for a week while we’re there. We will be renting a 23’ Super B, which is about the largest thing you can fit between the hedge rows in Wales!
Our Chapter Secretary, Jeanne Bateman, checked in from Jamestown, North Dakota. Why Jamestown (town population 15,000, entire county population 21,000) you ask?? Honestly, it was the destination for the number of miles we wanted to cover today. And once again, we were pleasantly surprised. As so often happens, every little town has a story and something unique. Jamestown is the birthplace of author Louis L’Amour. He lived there until age 15 with his parents: a veterinarian and a teacher. I might have to pick up one of his books. Jamestown also claims Peggy Lee as one of their own. Who knew?
Jeanne & Larry enjoyed seeing Dakota Thunder, the largest buffalo monument in the world, standing 26 feet high and weighing in at 60 tons. And they REALLY enjoyed watching the small buffalo herd, including three babies, lazing in their pasture acreage trying to beat the heat.
They are back on the road, on their way to the Calgary Stampede and hope to see many Manatees at the International Rally in Sedalia. Our Vice President, James Meadows, and his wife Peggy are on the road and also plan to see you at the International Rally.
Our next Rally is planned for November 5-8, at the St Augustine RV Resort, 426 Resort Way, St. Augustine, Florida 32084. For reservations call the park at 904-824-9840. St. Augustine is a great city with lots to do. For details check out the Visitor Center and register TODAY! The deadline for our reserved sites at the Rally rate is August 31.
