10-12-2026 | The Manhattan Project: New Mexico’s Atomic Heritage Caravan Rally
This rally is SOLD OUT! Please contact the rally host to be added to the waitlist.
On July 16, 1945, in a remote area of the New Mexico desert, the world’s first atomic bomb was detonated, and forever changed our world. You are invited to explore with us this definitive part of our history, and gain better understanding of what this scientific research brought.
Our two-stop caravan will take us from Albuquerque to the mesa tops of Los Alamos National Laboratory, and to the deserts of White Sands Missile Range, including a visit to the Trinity Site, which is only open to the public twice a year.
We will gather in Albuquerque for a four-night stay, and begin our experience with a welcome dinner, and a visit to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History (a Smithsonian museum). There, we will be given a docent-led tour of the museum, and learn how atomic science has evolved to help put men on the moon, improve medical diagnosis and treatment, and power our cities and industry.
From Albuquerque, fueled by a catered breakfast, we will carpool 100 miles north to visit the “Secret City” of Los Alamos, New Mexico, where scientists lived and worked during the Manhattan Project. We will visit the Bradbury museum, and enjoy a docent-led walking tour of the historic Manhattan Project era properties.
After a free day in the Albuquerque area, we will travel to Alamogordo, New Mexico, for a two-night stay, where we will visit the New Mexico Museum of Space History to learn about the development of the rocket and space programs at nearby White Sands Missile Range.
Our rally will culminate with a trip to the Trinity Site. We will travel by motor coach (with a docent on board) from Alamogordo to the site, and stand on the very spot where the world’s first atomic bomb was detonated. This unique experience is only available to the public on two days per year. Not to fear, after 81 years, radiation levels at the site are less than ordinary background levels found in our environment today! Our day at the Trinity Site will end with a farewell dinner in Alamogordo.
There is a 15 coach limit.
