The “Rally in the Gorge” September 5-8 is quickly approaching. Have you made your reservations? If not, there are still campsites at 4 Guys RV Park in Stanton, Kentucky available (reservation info below).
If you are unfamiliar with this part of Kentucky, pull up a chair and let me tell you a little bit about this truly remarkable place. Red River Gorge is a 45-minute drive from Lexington in the East central part of the state. It is nestled in the heart of the vast Daniel Boone National Forest. It truly is one of the most beautiful places on earth and we want to invite you to come and visit our rally.
It took several million years for the “Red River” to carve “The Red River Gorge” as we know it today. It features over 150 sandstone arches within the boundaries of 29,000 acres of this geological wonder. It is the only area east of the Rocky Mountains to feature this many free-standing arches, as well as rock shelters, jagged cliffs, natural bridges, and an array of beautifully majestic waterfalls.
The entire area has been designated as a “National Natural Landmark”. Within Red River Gorge is Natural Bridge State Park. It features a 78’ long by 65’ high natural sandstone bridge that anyone can walk across, underneath, or around. A chair lift will take you to the top of the Gorge where you will enjoy scenic views and vistas, sure to please the most discriminating photographers. Most selfies and photography are taken from the center point of the bridge.
Get this… the lift operators, by request, will slow or stop the chair lift to permit your safe mount or dismount from the lift if you need a little extra time. A gift shop awaits your visit at the base of the chair lift. They have really cool stuff to help remind you of your visit.
“The Gorge Underground” is a one-hour kayaking tour taken through an underground cave. Experienced and trained guides take guests through the darkness and quiet of the Gorge Grotto.
Additionally, there are numerous hiking trails for all ages and capabilities. If your thing is rock climbing, you won’t be disappointed. If your thing is fishing, you won’t be disappointed at Mill Creek Lake. In fact, there is a large fishing pond and docks within the friendly confines of 4 Guys RV Park. If your thing is bird watching- various species of woodpeckers, kinglets, nuthatches, wrens, sparrows, cardinals, goldfinch, kingfisher, crow, blue heron, Carolina chickadee and wild turkey can be enjoyed at picnic shelters 3 & 4 as well as many trails marked for bird watching.
The Rally in the Gorge belongs on your “bucket list” of places to visit with your Newmar friends. You’ll be able to enjoy as many attractions as you care to imagine. 4 Guys RV Park is 2 miles off the highway. The owners and management team will be very attentive to your needs. We have “glamped” at 4 Guys many times and keep coming back.
If you’ve read this far you might possibly be thinking… “but I have bad knees, or a bad hip”. Maybe you’re concerned that Red River Gorge is more for the explorer-minded adventurers, not for people like me. My wife & I are frequent visitors to 4 Guys and Red River Gorge. I’m 69 years old and have had two knee replacement surgeries and a bad hip… and, WE keep going back!!
My wife & I have met so many senior adults, like us, that keep coming back year after year, visit after visit. The secret is out… Red River Gorge deserves your visit. Why not now? All the amenities The Gorge has to offer are accessible by car. You can drive right to the location, park and take a short walk to the attraction. Sounds enticing, doesn’t it?!
We hope you’ll soon be making plans and reservations to participate in the “Rally in the Gorge”. All participants will receive “Rally in the Gorge” Klub Bars to add to your growing collection.
Your rally fee will include a welcome bag and welcome dinner on Thursday night. Also provided will be the meat for a potluck dinner on Saturday night, with a campfire and some delicious S’mores for dessert. Your Rally fee also includes a sendoff breakfast of Danish and fruit on Sunday morning. We’ll be going to Miguels Pizza (very popular) for dinner Friday night, the cost is on your own. We’ll visit The Gorge on Saturday morning, and after, will be a free afternoon on your own. You can return to the Gorge for more exploring or just hang out with friends or take a much-needed nap!!
