New York State Directors
The recent New York State NKK rally in the Finger Lakes welcomed 22 coaches to the Finger Lakes RV Resort in Hector, New York. This is a new RV park in its third season of operation. Everyone appreciated the generous size of the sites. Owners Rachael & Doug are working hard to ensure that their campers enjoy a positive experience. NYS attendees were fairly evenly divided between the Hudson Aires and Lakers. We welcomed campers from New England and Pennsylvania. Chapters were well represented by their officers. All new officers from the Hudson Aires, the Presidents and VPs of the Lakers, Presidents of the New England Aires, and our Region 7 Directors, Steve & Joanne Wyble, were present. As rally hosts, planning for potential bad weather and keeping attendees dry is a key factor. Having an open sided pavilion at this park worked well for our group, but an enclosed rec hall or clubhouse would be even better.
We visited the Schuyler County Historical Museum at the Brick Tavern. In addition to presenting the history of the area from growing grapes and other agricultural pursuits, Native American history, colonial life, etc., there was a special exhibit of the 75 years of auto racing history at Watkins Glen International. Following lunch at the Seneca Harbor Station restaurant, many of us took a boat tour of Seneca Lake. We learned about the two salt companies along the lake and the process of mining salt here. Seneca Lake, at 618 feet deep, is the second deepest lake in the United States after Crater Lake.
One new attendee joined NKK during the rally, another new owner was referred to Pennsylvania NKK, first time attendees were welcomed, previous friendships renewed, and new ones begun.
We’re looking forward to the NYS rally for 2025 and are scouting locations in the Lake George area. Stay tuned.
