Carl & Gayle Webber (20143)
The Carolinas (NC/SC) State Directors
Hey, y’all! On this Summer Solstice (yes – these articles are written about a month before the Legacy is published), it is soggy and humid in North Carolina. We spent the past week at our little 800-sq ft get-away (aka: The Webber Mansion) in the North Carolina mountains and received 2” of rain the day before we left, accompanied by flood warnings for the next several days. Of course, by the time y’all read this, we’ll probably be dry and humid, with all the flowers/foliage/veggies, thankful for the nourishment and sunshine. Sometimes, we need to remind ourselves that we can’t enjoy those things without both sunshine AND rain … so bring it on!
Last month, we were honored to host The Carolinas State Rally at Fayetteville RV Resort and Cabins, obviously, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. With thirteen coaches in attendance, we may have been small in numbers, but we were large in fun, food, and fellowship! For those who may not know, Fayetteville is home to Fort Bragg Army Base and previously home to Pope Air Force Base, so there is a LOT of history in that area. In addition to the nightly dinners and breakfast two mornings, activities included visiting the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, and plenty of free time to enjoy the many historical venues available.
Special thanks to Kleen Tank and SkyMed for sponsoring meals, to each attendee who contributed (monetarily and by donating needed items) in support of the chosen local charitable organization – Falcon Children’s Home, and to Frank Cushman for creating an amazing compilation of the event. In the coming weeks, our son and his girlfriend are coming up from Florida for vacation, so the Wandering Webbers (plus two) will return to the “Mansion” for most of that time. Afterwards, we will head to Mt. Airy, North Carolina to co-host the VA/NC/SC Joint Mayberry Rally with Charlie & Deane Grebinger (from the Virginia Wheels NKK chapter). With 36 coaches registered, it will surely be exciting and fun-filled!
And speaking of fun-filled … registration is open for the 37th NKK International Rally to be held September 30 – October 7 in Sedalia, Missouri. This is without a doubt our favorite NKK event because we are able to see a lot of our extended NKK friends whom we only see at International. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to register SOON … before it’s sold out (a couple of the pre-rally tours are already full).
Ladies and gentlemen, you are obviously a part of the Newmar Kountry Klub, but if you’re not participating and attending rallies, you are missing out on a huge benefit of that membership. That’s where you meet your fellow chapter members and build wonderful friendships. Plus, you can attend other chapters’ rallies all over the country (and Canada). Just peruse the NKK Event Calendar, find the rallies that fit your travel plans, and register! It’s that simple, and a great way to meet a lot of good folks!
SO – if you are not a member of your local chapter … especially you North Carolina and South Carolina folks … do yourself a favor; reach out to your local chapter officers and remedy that situation! You can also just register for an upcoming rally (you don’t have to be a member of any NKK chapter to attend any rally) and see for yourself what you’ve been missing. You can thank us later!
Happy travels, y’all … to wherever your Newmar takes you! We can be reached at dc3carl@gmail.com / younggrammygayle@gmail.com 704-225-7442/ 704-619-1851.
