Pennsylvania West Penn Travelers – Presidents

We are pleased to report that our Lake Erie Rally, held June 5-9, was a rousing success. A big thanks to Ron & Debbie Leofsky for hosting the rally. We had 23 coaches and a packed and exciting itinerary. The rally was held at Sparrow Pond Campground in Waterford, just 10 miles south of Erie, Pennsylvania. Campground management was great to work with and the facilities are excellent. Highly recommended for other chapters in neighboring New York and Ohio.
The highlight of the rally was a sailing adventure on the US Brig Niagara, a full-scale restoration of the ship commanded by Admiral Perry during the War of 1812. We ventured out onto Lake Erie and worked as part of the crew to set sail and learn about the challenges facing our sailors and marines during those times. The weather was perfect with sunshine and plenty of wind to fill the sails. Best of all, we “didn’t give up the ship” and returned safely to port.

We also ventured to Jamestown, New York to visit the Lucy/Desi Museum. A nostalgic look back at the lives and individual careers of Lucy & Desi Arnaz and the development of the iconic I Love Lucy TV series. A fun look back with lots of laughs. We had lunch in the Tropicana Room, a re-creation of Ricky Ricardo’s Manhattan nightclub.

Following lunch, we ventured two blocks to the National Comedy Center. A state-of-the-art, interactive tribute to the history of comedy. This is a highly rated venue that is well worth the visit.

We are also pleased to announce the new slate of chapter officers elected at our annual business meeting. Tom & Sallie Watson, President, Ron & Debbie Leofsky, Vice President, Lucy Hernley, Secretary, and Ted Vigeant, Treasurer. We have a healthy chapter with 37 active coaches.

I would like to thank Steve & Joanne Wyble, Region Seven Directors, John & Diane Svatek, New York State Directors, Cary & Carol Duncan, President of Penn’s Friends chapter for attending our rally. Most importantly, I want to thank Wayne & Sue Burke, Pennsylvania State Directors for their tireless effort and leadership that contributed to our successful rally.
