The Carolinas (NC/SC) State Directors
Hey, y’all! We are all familiar with that mysterious group of people referred to as “they”. Apparently, “they” know EVERYTHING, and “they” say, “April showers bring May flowers.” That means its SPRING, y’all! It’s time to brush off those beautiful Newmar motorhomes and hit the road.
This year, we will be spending a lot of time on the road. In fact, when this publication comes out, we will just be returning home for the first time since we left in early January. We’ll only be home a couple weeks before it’s off to Gaffney, South Carolina for our Carolinas State Rally, then home a couple more weeks and we’re off again until mid-to-late August. A good bit of this is NKK related rallies and/or coach maintenance related, but we always try to incorporate some good old-fashioned sight-seeing in the trip. You know what “they” say … “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Actually, Ralph Waldo Emerson first penned those words, but we completely agree with his theory. That, ladies and gentlemen, is why we bought a motorhome!
In the next Legacy publication, we’ll let you know about the adventures we discovered. To paraphrase Winnie the Pooh, “You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for adventures to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”
In the meantime, here are a couple adventures in our part of the country you can check out …
May 13-17: The Carolinas State Rally takes us to Spacious Skies Peach Haven in Gaffney, South Carolina. If your coach is built on a Freightliner chassis, this is the perfect opportunity to schedule your annual chassis maintenance! Even if it’s not, we’re sure you’ll find the tour of Freightliner’s chassis line informative. This area also holds some interesting history and fruit groves, and we’ll be visiting both venues as part of this fun- and food-filled rally.
August 15-18: The Virginia Wheels, North Carolina Tarheels and South Carolina Palmetto Pals will be gathering for the Mayberry/Mt. Airy Rally. You can expect to visit the Andy Griffith Museum and the Museum of Regional History, compete in a mini-golf tournament, and participate in various trivia games. Prizes include free lunches at Snappy Lunch, a popular local restaurant featured on the Andy Griffith Show.
Remember, as a NKK member, you are welcome (and invited) to attend ANY rally ANY where you travel (contingent on available space, of course). Please join us if you find yourself in our neck-of-the-woods. As “they” say, “If we don’t see you here, we’ll see ya’ – hear?”
Happy travels, y’all … to wherever your Newmar takes you! We can be reached at dc3carl@gmail.com / younggrammygayle@gmail.com 704-225-7442/ 704-619-1851.
