Be sure to register on this site for one of the 25 sites we are expecting to fill.  The campground will be accepting reservations starting January 1, 2026.  At that time, please call Kathy, at the campground, at 970-565-3388 or 970-749-5823.  If you have registered on the NKK website, I will contact you to remind you to make your site reservation. You must register on the NKK website in order to be counted as a participant.  When we receive your registration,  we will add you to the email list of our attendees and you’ll be kept informed of all updates,  and schedules and planned activities.

Dolores is a small gateway town with great access to archaeology, water recreation, hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. The elevation is 6,936 and the average temperatures in September are highs of 75 and lows of 48.  Of course the main event here is Mesa Verde National Park which is just a short drive from the campground.  Some other options for activities are:

World class cliff dwellings, overlooks and museum at Mesa Verde National Park

The Anasazi Heritage Center

McPhee Reservoir- which is great for a full day outing

Canyons of the Ancients National Monument

Trail of the Ancients Scenic Byway and other local byways connecting historic and archaeological sites

Hovenweep National Monument and other Four Corners ruins that are nearby

Durango is about 45-60 minutes away and is the home of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (a must do for this area!)  You can ride the train up to Silverton and then take the bus back to Durango.  This is a full day event.

Outdoor activities like Fishing in the Dolores River and McPhee Reservoir,  off roading and 4X4 touring, paddle sports and boating, hiking and mountain biking on the many trails in the canyon country.

We will be putting together some of these activities for you to enjoy, and we’ll have some meals together, evening fireside gatherings together, and lots of comaraderie with your fellow Newmarians!  You will also have time to explore on your own.
