Larry & Patsy Wood (12255-L)
Region Three Directors
Larry made a visit to Nappanee in early January to have some repairs made on the motor home. Getting to Indiana from Oklahoma in the winter can sometimes be a little tricky, so he left a few days early to miss the snow and ice. It’s a good thing he did! He got parked the first evening, and when he woke up the next day, there were several inches of snow on the ground! He also stopped by Spartan in Charlotte, Michigan, for routine maintenance. He made it back home safe and sound!
Preparations for the Region Three Rally are in the final stages. The location will be at the KOA Campground located at the Choctaw Casino in Durant, Oklahoma, on April 27-May 1. Deadline to register is April 15. However, if you missed the deadline and are interested, contact us at the number listed below. Although the number is limited to 40 coaches, there may still be an opening.
All camping is 50 amp, full hookups, on concrete pads. We will have exclusive use of the rally room, which is one of the nicest facilities we have used. In addition to three (3) breakfasts and three (3) dinners, we will be going to the Endangered Ark Encounter in Hugo one day. We will get to see those beautiful elephants and even have a chance for a close encounter if you wish. Getting to feed, touch, and interact with the elephants will make for a day you won’t forget. And, of course, there will be a photo opportunity.
That same day, we will be very close to another unusual outdoor experience that is well worth visiting. We know it sounds strange to recommend a trip to a cemetery, but the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo is the final resting place for some very interesting people. For years, when the circus season ended, Hugo was the designated spot to spend the winter. It became the home base. A large section of plots was purchased in 1960 by circus legend D. R. Miller for the purpose of developing Showmen’s Rest. Showmen and women from around the country are memorialized here. The unique headstones are definitely worth visiting.
We are still looking for chapter officers in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. State Directors are also needed in Arkansas and Louisiana. We hope to have breakout sessions for each state in our region during the rally in Durant.
We have also been busy with our International Rally responsibilities. Parking and Registration requires lots of volunteers. We are grateful to everyone who responded to our requests for volunteers. It looks like we have an excellent crew for the Rock Springs event. We currently have enough volunteers, but we do have a standby list in case anyone has to drop out. Let us know if you would like to be on the standby list.
We hope to see you at the upcoming rallies. Safe travels, friends.
