The Louisiana State Rally, last March at Lakeside RV Park in Livingston, Louisiana, was filled with good food, good fellowship and good fun. Some of the highlights of the rally were the guest speakers that addressed a few “senior” subjects: identity theft, investment risks, Medicare and emergency care and transportation in the event of illness or injury.
Detective Jeff Beatty of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department discussed identity theft and the protection of our credit cards while traveling, particularly when stopping for fuel. Mr. Blaise Ernst of Morgan Stanley discussed investment risks, asset allocations, and life and end of life planning. Ms. Vicki Durfrene, Insurance Manager of the Louisiana State Department of Insurance, Medicare Group. discussed health insurance by reviewing the various options for supplemental health insurance and Medicare. Ms. Rita Sax of SkyMed reviewed the services provided for members of SkyMed, and the costs for emergency transportation without SkyMed insurance. Ms. Sax sponsored our evening ice cream social. Thank you to all of our guest speakers.
Wednesday, also included a visit to Mr. Mike Fulmer’s Berryland Campers of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, the Louisiana Newmar dealer. Mr. Tony Giannobile, Motorhome Sales Manager, and his staff provided lunch and a tour of several Newmar coaches, including some of the gasoline and diesel pusher product line.
On Thursday we toured the Blue Runner Foods plant in Gonzales, Louisiana and were greeted by the Ascension Parish President, Mr. Kenny Matassa. During the tour we were shown the various processes that Blue Runner Foods follows to make their products for delivery to customers. Thank you Marcy LeBlanc for setting up this tour for us.
After lunch at Carli-Co Cafe’, we toured Houmas House Plantation and grounds. Our docent, Ms. Sandy, dressed in her “period” costume, explained the history of the plantation, making the history “come to life” with her stories of the house, its owners and guests. This was an excellent tour.
Thank you to all state rally attendees for making this a special event, and particularly to those who stepped-up to help with the cooking and kitchen details. Also, a big thank you to all of the support for the repeat attendees to the Louisiana State Rally. Without your support, this rally would not be able to happen.

Ed and Fran Marynik reported that, after they left the state rally in Livingston, they went to Natchitoches to visit relatives. While there, they looked around for a new campground in that area. About 6 miles north-northwest of Natchitoches, they found a new campground named Grand Ecore RV Park. It is near the Red River in a gated campground community that has 59 RV sites, 50 Amp full hook-up; 24 are pull-through and 35 are back-in. There is rich grass throughout the park and the parking sites are made of concrete. Also, there is a clubhouse in the park. They reported that this would make a great RV park for any rally of small to medium size. This is the link to the campground website: grandecorervpark.com.
Good News: Peggy Thibodaux reports that Carroll has fully recovered from his surgery. “On the road again, can’t wait till I get on the road again…”
“Laissez les bon temps rouler.”
