Greetings from Kansas! What a rally schedule this year for Kansas! Next month the Sunflower’s start the year at Milford, followed by Branson, Seneca, Abilene, and ending with the International Rally in Sedalia, Missouri. Come join us!
How long is a Kansas Kountry Sunflower rally? Each monthly rally begins on a Thursday afternoon and ends Sunday morning. The cost of each rally varies, depending upon events and activities the hosts have planned, but usually the rally fee last year was about $40 per motorhome. If meals are catered in, the cost will reflect. You are responsible for making reservations at the RV park or campground. Last year the rallies averaged about $40 or less a night with our group discount.
The Kansas Sunflower chapter has 15 members with 9-13 Newmar motorhomes attending each month from May – October in Kansas. Most of our members are retired, but we do have younger couples who are still employed and happily driving towards retirement.
Getting warm outside? The winter season is over, and those who have gone south for warmer weather are home or will be heading back home. Along the way, we noticed many retirement parks and RV parks are not full like a few years ago. Most RV parks have fewer overnight lot rentals and expanded the monthly rental lots for more full-time living in an RV, construction or oil workers living in them. I see RV sales lots are full with inventory. The cycle of RV’s continues…. Have you visited one of those self-serve RV campgrounds? Reserve, check-in, check-out without human contact?
I was contacted recently by a member looking for a winter destination RV park. My experience comes from wintering in the Texas Rio Grande Valley but applies to most locations. Almost every destination park has introduction rates at about 50% off the first month or two for first timers. Take advantage of them. But the parks know, if you stay, they have a high chance retaining you every year. We used the discounted rates when we first came to check out other parks. Also, call parks in advance on the phone and ask questions you are concerned with. Like which direction will the RV face? Trees on lot? Closeness to activity center? Space between RV’s? Smooth roads? Easy to walk or ride a bike on? Speed bumps user friendly? It’s not like you are making big decisions, because you can generally change. But if these issues are important, focus on them.
