Bill & Beth White (20471)
West Virginia State Directors
West Virginia Traveling Mountaineers – Presidents
Since our last column, we have had lots of excitement in Jane Lew. We’ll give you a couple of examples.
First, the evening before Beth’s birthday, November 11, we had a 3-alarm fire at our home and 16 acres of our woods burned. At one point, we had 17 volunteer fire departments involved. We are fine and living in our London Aire. It is parked in our motorhome garage, just down our driveway. It wasn’t our choice, but we have become full timers for now.
In addition, we are busily planning for our new house and are working with the insurance company on determining values for our old house and it’s contents. It was quite a birthday for Beth; it certainly came in with a bang. The fire appears to have been caused by a brand new Craftsman 20 Volt tool battery charger that had been purchased the day of the fire.
We had been working on our 2022 West Virginia State Rally and all the detailed notes, names and phone numbers were in the bottom of the house. They were not damaged by fire, but were drenched from the water! After separating many soaked papers and drying them in the sun, we had enough information to recreate our plans and can report that we have finalized our plans! The rally will be held in Moundsville, West Virginia on June 2-5 at the Riverfront RV Park. The park is located in the middle of downtown Morgantown with easy access to most of the events at the rally. The details can be found on the Newmar Kountry Klub website. Fees include three nights of camping and additional nights can be arranged for an additional $30.00 a night. Highlights include: the Palace of Gold, the largest burial mound of it’s type in the US, an archeological museum, and the old West Virginia State Prison.
As this is written we are still celebrating Christmas; good thing it lasts for 12 days! Since we have a large family, it really is the Christmas Season. We hope everyone has had a blessed Christmas and we can honestly say that we appreciate being able to celebrate. The past month or so has certainly put things in perspective. We are very grateful we are able to celebrate this year.
This is a short column, but we have been very busy with insurance reports, meetings with architects and contractors, and arranging for demolition of the old house. We’ll elaborate more next time.
Have a safe winter! God Bless you all. We can be reached by email: janelewbill@gmail.com or by phone 304-884-7623 (H) 304-871-7330 (C).
