The temp in Ohio is still in the 90’s as we write this article. Fall weather will be welcomed….but we’re not sure about winter.
The International Rally in West Virginia found us renewing past friendships and adding MANY new ones to our long list. It was helpful to have a question/answer seminar relating to Newmar coaches over 10 years old. We hope Newmar will continue with this type of owner interaction.
Ohio now has two NKK chapters. The new Ohio chapter was announced at the 2021 International Rally. The new chapter name: “Lake Erie Drifters” is NKK-Charter #99. The (old) “Buckeye Kountry Travelers” is NKK-Charter #4.
The BKT celebrated their 35th anniversary this year with a commemorative “laser engraved” metal piece. A rough draft copy of the “Piece” design was first initiated by BKT-President, Rick Fox and suggested to State Directors, Flash & Bev. The idea blossomed and the design was sent to BKT-member Mike Karcic for a feasibility review. Mike suggested some changes and a final version was agreed. Funding was approved, Mike finalized the design and arranged for production of the “Piece” for our celebration. Each active BKT couple (as of July 2021) is entitled to one “Commemorative “Piece” per unit.
The completed medallion was available for distribution at the Ohio State Rally in September. One Commemorative “Piece” was presented to each active BKT couple that was present. That was cool, thanks Rick and Mike and to all those who were involved. BKT-President Rick Fox will distribute the remaining “Piece’s” to those entitled members.
At the NKK International, NIRVC displayed 11 Newmar RVs and sold them all before the rally ended. Toward the end of the International Rally NIRVC put on a special “Wear Your Blue NIRVC Shirt” gathering for some good food, a band for entertainment and drawings for some very nice prizes. Flash has a pair of “Red, White and Blue” flashing LED light up shoes that our son Rick Miller gave him. Flash likes to wear them when it gets dark…so, he gets noticed??…No…NO! Just because! Well, we were attending the gathering, minding our own business, (LED’s flashing) listening to the band playing. Host entertainer and NIRVC blond promo celebrity – Angie came by our table, saw the flashing shoes and …DRUG… Flash to the dance floor for a “Bump-the-Booty” type dancing. What could he do but try to keep up with the younger set, so he joined in with the movement (he was so embarrassed…not). Some of our BKT friends took photos of that episode (without permission, mind you) and you guessed it, some photos got out in distribution. It really was a lot of fun but Bev made Flash turn off his LED shoes (later…he did one better “she put HIS Lights Out”).
After the International rally (and all those dancing aches and pains – no sympathies) Flash had to get back to working on our Onan Generator and some other RV repairs that were needed. Hopefully, all will be in good working order again. He truly is “Mr. Fix It”.
The next BKT rally found us at Berlin RV Park-Campground in Millersburg, Ohio. Our great hosts, Jeff & Mary Edington and Don & Dee Nelson, presented us with a relaxing outing and with good food of course. Thank you all for such a fun (but HOT) rally. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed another day along with five other RV couples. During the rally we also had the opportunity to get to know a few of our new couples a little better and have some fun too (the BKT really are a Fun Group). We also saw two of our couples hop on their four Harley motorcycles to go out and enjoy the area. BKT-Pres. Rick Fox has more to fill in regarding the August rally so we will let you continue and read his BKT-President’s article, which follows below.
As we were busy writing this article, we were also tying up a few loose ends in preparation for our State Rally in September. One of the rally highlights was having the “Thunder Bay Band” entertain us during our opening night gathering. Our very own Rick Fox (BKT-President) was “The MAN ” featured on drums. We hope everyone enjoyed the rally and what we had planned. More about that in the next Legacy edition.
