Ohio Buckeye Kountry Travelers – President
Hello Buckeyes! Rally season is here. Our June rally is set for Hocking Hills and will probably be in the books by the time you read this. My thanks to the Althoffs for hosting. Knowing the plans in advance, I can tell you they did a great job, and we have a sold-out rally. The Peasleys and the Tredents are well on their way in their plans for our August rally at Cutty’s Campground in Louisville, Ohio….catered dinner Friday night (BBQ ribs, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, dessert drinks and dinner service), Erie Canal historic presentation and canal boat ride on the St. Helena III Canal Boat Charter and continental breakfast on Sunday morning. Saturday night dinner will be at a location to be determined and will be “dutch treat.”
As I write this, Jeanne & I are wrapping up our trip to Washington D.C. While I had visited the area over 20 years ago when my brother was based at the Pentagon, Jeanne had never been there. There is so much to see and do. My favorite was Arlington National Cemetery and the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is such a sobering ceremony. While there, we visited the gravesite of our traveling companion’s relatives. It is truly interesting how they order the grave markers and the number of funerals held at the cemetery. While we were participating in a night tour of the memorials, we were informed that the Capitol was shut down due to a potential aircraft threat. About a half an hour later, the all-clear was given…misplaced skydivers for a Washington Capitals baseball game. Next, we are off to the northeast and will wrap up that trip at the June rally.
Our Vice President, Jim Fry, is working out the details for the October rally and details will be distributed as soon as everything is finalized.
I want to again remind everyone that this is our chapter election year. The Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer positions are all open positions. Per our chapter rules, current Vice President Jim Fry will be stepping up as our President for 2023 and 2024. Please consider running for office. It’s chapter members like you who make us a strong chapter. We plan to have elections in late October or November. Please keep this in the back of your mind.
I look forward to seeing you in June. If you have questions about the chapter or any of our events feel free to contact me at rgfox09@gmail.com or give me a call at 513-617-8914.
