Michigan State Directors

Well, we wrapped up a few rallies, and by now summer is racing by for us in Michigan. It’s been a busy time so we are taking a look backward at the summer events we’ve already had.

Our region rally in May was a big hit again thanks to lots of planning from Chuck & Michelle Steenwyk. We had a great time touring the Ford plant and the Cleveland Zoo along with great eating events (Nautica Queen Luncheon Buffet Cruise) so again a big thank you to our Region Directors.

From there we went north to one of my personal favorite campgrounds in Michigan, Aune Osborne at the SOO, and we watched Great Lake freighters go by along with ocean ships (Saltys). One of the tours we did this year was the Original Soo Locks Boat Tour, and we highly recommend this tour.

Our Captain and first mate were just great and gave us a great tour, and their knowledge was more than just a script. We enjoyed them so much, we invited them to our dessert bar that night and they accepted and told us even more. Captain Ray was on the freighter the Joseph L Block and had 44 years of experience on the great lakes. We asked questions and found out a freighter like that takes on a lot of fuel for a week’s travel.

As this is written next is our state rally in June with a wood carvers’ theme in Evart, Michigan, then off to Indiana for their State Rally. As you read this, we’re already done with the International Rally and starting to wrap up a Michigan Rally, an Ohio Rally and making some plans for the Region Five Rally in Georgia.

We try to get to other state rallies every year to learn about the hidden gems in their states, along with greeting friends and making new ones. It’s just great being part of the Klub.
