What a Gorgeous Spring Day in late April in Northern Indiana – while looking out the window. The sun is shining bright, the birds are singing and there are some spring flowers still in bloom. All that “wonderfulness” looks really good, but the temperature is in the mid-40s and the wind is pretty strong – and cold. (Hah! No yard work today!) Oh well, we have had some days of warm temperature and the grass is green and growing, the trees are budding and leafing out and summer is on its way. Unfortunately, Phyllis’ Magnolia tree popped out with its blossoms just in time for a late season freeze and now the flower petals are all brown and it soon will be just another tree till next year.
The real beauty of all this spring-time stuff is that it means the camping season is almost here and it will soon be time to find the coach that has been buried in winter storage and get it ready to hit the road and the campgrounds and the rallies. We did have “Chocolate Charlie” out to go to the Tampa Super Show and the Newmar Rally in January, but when we got home, he went back into his hibernation mode and winter sleep. We’ll nudge him awake and bring him home in the next few days so we can make a few minor repairs and get him jazzed up for our first camping trip of the season.
Our Newmar season begins May 16-20 with the Region Six Rally at Shipshewana; June 16-20 will be the Hoosier Kountry Klub Rally at Corydon, Indiana; July will be the NKK International Rally at Lewisburg, West Virginia; August 12-16 will have a Special Event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; September 15-19 will be the Indiana State Rally at Potato Creek State Park; and October will have a return to Follow the River Campground in Florence, Indiana.
So, SAVE THE DATES in September for the Indiana State Rally – September 15–19 (4 nights camping) at Potato Creek State Park by North Liberty, Indiana. Camping reservations can be made through www.camp.in.gov and 866-622-6746. We will be in Area E of the campground and our targeted sites are 230 to 250. All sites are 50/30 amp electric only. There is potable water on the way in and a dump station on the way out.
Assuming our world is back to some semblance of normal by September, the park campground will be very busy, so get your reservations in as early as you can. There is a $5.00 reservation fee, camping will be $24.61 Wednesday, $32.10 each Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Indiana State Parks charge a $7.00 Entry Fee for in-state residents and $9.00 for out-of-state residents.
Phyllis suggested the following is a very timely inclusion in our musing:
RV Prayer
Lord bless this little house on wheels
While we’re out on the road,
And as we sleep and take our meals,
Protect our small abode.
We’re not at home and won’t presume
To have everything as good,
Some things, Lord don’t take much room,
But this is understood.
Bless the shower, fridge, stove and bed
The generator and holding tanks,
And the campground waiting up ahead,
For all this we give Thee Thanks.
