West Penn Travelers – Presidents
Well, we are finally here … SPRING!!! Yea!!! Roxann and I are so very glad to see this past winter season become just a footnote in our “Book of Life.” We are sorry that we were unable to communicate in the last Legacy issue or send out the winter issue of the chapter newsletter; however, we were a bit overwhelmed with regular challenges most of us will face … these life events just normally don’t all coincide. Rox lost her brother days before Thanksgiving and her father just days before Christmas. In the midst of caring for my out-of-town in-laws, Rox’s mom broke her foot and my mother shattered her hip. Add in several mandated isolations for us due to COVID and bacterial infections, then you might understand why chapter business (and holidays, and travel, and friends, etc.) were placed on the back burner. So … we are extremely anxious for the fun-filled rallies and travels with our NKK and WPT friends.
Pulling our lovely coach out of winter storage on the first weekend of March signaled a return to normality for us. It was wonderful to de-winterize both our Dutchy and our minds. In mid-March we almost made it far enough south to see many of you in the Sun Belt, but our travels were only to Freightliner in Gaffney, South Carolina, for a much-overdue “spa” treatment for “Hither” (our coach). “She” was not happy to quickly return to the frigid north, but “we” are buoyed by a 2022 calendar that is jam-packed with travels, trips, rallies and escapes.
One of the first major entries in our calendar is the West Penn Travelers Pittsburgh Rally. If you haven’t made your reservation, Now Is The Time! As I write this article, we have filled the block of 17 guaranteed spots; however, the campground still has a few other spots available. To check on remaining campsite availability Call or Reserve Online Now – Fox Den Acres Campground – foxdenacres.com/reservations/ – or at 724-925-7054. Please be advised that campsite fees can only be paid in CASH upon your arrival … No Credit Cards accepted. Once you secure a site, then register for the rally on the Kountry Klub website so we can include you in the following plans.
The Pittsburgh Rally will be exciting and unique in several aspects. First … the dates are Monday, June 6 – Friday, June 10. This mid-week, non-weekend event offers the best availability of activities, events and campsites. Second … Fox Den Acres Campground in New Stanton is beautiful, has pull-thru spots, is ¼-mile from the nearest limited access highway, AND … it is only $37.00 per night when you reserve to be part of the West Penn Travelers Rally. Fox Den Acres also provides the easiest and closest access to our destination events … Three Rivers.
Our rally hosts, Paul & Joan Robbins, have many unique and exciting activities planned for our W.P.T. rally. From an historical and landmark tour of Pittsburgh … on land and on water (paddle wheeler) … to stops at the Carrie Furnace and Fort Ligonier … to exquisite tastes of true Pittsburgh (Halupki, Haluski, Pierogies and the famous Pgh. Cookie Table sampler). FUN … FOOD … and FRIENDS! What more could you want?
As part of our continued growth within this wonderful Newmar family, Roxann and I are acting on some great advice we have received from many of you. We are spreading our wings and expanding our circle of friends by visiting with NKK Chapters and members outside Pennsylvania. In May Roxann and I will be travelling to the Region Six Rally near Cleveland, Ohio. Then the weekend before our Pittsburgh rally, a couple of us will be travelling to the West Virginia State Rally. We are excited to make new friends, but also to bring back ideas and suggestions to make our Chapter even better. Unfortunately, being a collegiate band director on a fall football weekend will prevent me from joining you at the International Rally this year. We are counting the days and weeks until we can sit around the campfire … sharing our love, our laughter, and way-too-much food!
Keep your black tanks down, your antennas up, and a fair wind behind your TOAD.
