Region One Directors
Greetings all and welcome the Region One section of the April/May edition of the Legacy magazine. As you receive this edition, we’re enjoying the Arizona Suncatchers Rally in Casa Grande, Arizona hosted by the Suncatchers Chapter officers. We plan to attend an Arizona Newmar Luncheon in Tucson after the rally and then head to Silver City, New Mexico for the New Mexico State/Chapter rally. After extending our trip to Dallas for a week to see our new granddaughter, we will make it back home with a day to spare before the 49ers Rally in Monterey, California.
Our summer schedule is pretty full with spending about three weeks along with the other Regional Directors at the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. After the International we’ll be joining the Taste of the West Caravan for another three and a half weeks as tail gunners finishing in Yellowstone National Park.
Region One started the rally season with two great rallies in Southern California. The California State Rally hosted by State Directors Robert & Teresa Solomon-Billings was a wonderful event in Chula Vista (south end of San Diego Bay) and even though being challenged by some very unseasonable weather, it was a very fun rally and great to see some Newmar family we hadn’t seen in a while. There were also a large number of new Newmar Kountry Klub members in attendance, and the events seminars were well received. Thirty-five coaches attended the event, and while we stayed a couple extra days after the rally, we recruited two more Newmar coaches in the park to join our Klub.
The Golden Aires hosted a rally the next week in Temecula, California at the beautiful Pachanga Indian Casino and RV Resort. Crazy weather again, 85° for the three days prior to the rally and dropping overnight to the low 50’s with rain for the rally. Go figure, but all 34 coaches still had a great time!
At the Chula Vista State Rally one of the seminars discussed the importance of checking and retightening your bolts on the slide motors. Even though I have done mine a number of times, when we checked a few bolts weren’t snug. We replaced all the bolts (four per motor) with studs, red Lock Tight, and three lock nuts on each stud, and you should as well! I say that because when we got to the slide motor under the bed we found all four bolts had broken the motor housing. I have no idea how the slide went in and out except it was making a little more noise as it worked.
Newmar’s Customer Service Center overnighted a new slide motor to the park. A big THANK YOU to Newmar’s Service Department is due. A special thank you goes out to Region One’s resident RV guru, Tom Chelbana, for spending five hours helping me install the new assembly under the false bottom below the bed. Believe me when I tell you, unless you are a contortionist, you don’t want to do that job. Tom, you are a huge asset to the Klub as well as the friendship you and Teri share with Mary and I and so many members of Region One.
On a more solemn note, Region One has lost another past officer. Kathy & Chuck Wilson were Vice Presidents of the Golden Bears chapter in Northern California. Kathy passed in early February and will be remembered as a true blessing to all who knew her. Condolences can be sent to Chuck Wilson at 6030 Filbert Ave. Orangevale, CA 95662.
Here’s hoping we see you at the International Rally or another Region One rally soon. We can be reached at email region1newmarkountryklub@gmail.com, or cell 805-459-1653.
