It is with great anticipation that our club’s new slate of officers took on their roles at the end of our Lake Havasu Rally the first week in April. We look forward to serving the Sun Catchers and working as a team with the following new officers: Jeff and Linda Leinwand, Vice Presidents, Mike and Peggy Williams, Secretaries, Tom and Sharon Coffin agreed to continue in their role as Treasurers and Larry and Marj Miller stepped up as Membership Chairs. It will be fun to see what the next two years will bring!
Our Lake Havasu Rally was co-hosted by Chuck and Judi Reading, recent past presidents, and Duane Paige and Laurie Hunt, new presidents, with a healthy dose of help by all of the new officers. We had a picturesque cruise through Topock Gorge which was enjoyed by all. We broke all of the participants into eight teams for the First Annual (and maybe last, who knows?) AZ Sun Catcher’s NonAthalon! Friday evening was dedicated to Team Strategy and Fashion. Yes, Fashion was key at this NonAthalon! All team members came prepared with their white t-shirts and enjoyed slinging paint and bedazzling themselves into the best looking NonAthalon teams in Lake Havasu – that day. Saturday, we had some great informational presentations followed by free time to explore what Northwest Arizona has to offer. Sunday, we had our annual chapter meeting, installing new officers and carrying out our NonAthalon.
The teams had spirited competition complete with trash-talk and all. Our games included such stand outs as Hula Hoop Rolling, Cue Ball Bouncing and Name-that-Tune (Note: Do not go up against California State Officer Mary Roberts in Name-that Tune. You WILL lose!) The rally closed on Monday morning with everyone heading off to their own little parts of the world. This is the time of year when those that winter with us in Arizona start to make their way back North until fall and winter are back upon us once again.
Several of our members will be making their way towards Syracuse for the International Rally in September. For those unable to get to Syracuse, we are looking down the road at the possibility of a No-Host Rally in the early fall and our Sun Catcher Annual Rally slated for April 2nd-6th, 2020. As our season comes to an end for now, we wish all those just readying to start their travel season happy and safe journey’s ahead. Hope to see you in the fall!
