We started our 2019 year with a joint BC Provincial & BC Dogwood Klub Rally on July 4th – 8th. Our event took place in Cranbrook, B.C. at the Scandinavians of East Kootenay Viking Lodge. This was a great venue for a rally. Thanks to Wayne & Doris Erickson for making arrangements for use of the lodge. Eleven coaches attended our dry camping rally.
Activities included: Train & Underground Mining Tour, Gold Mine Tour, and Geocaching. Some attended the local Farmer’s Market. Once again food was in abundance. Bob Jackson did his famous fried chicken and he also did a cream can dinner. No one went hungry. No golfing due to rain. We had a few nice evenings to visit around a campfire. Wolmdingers were enjoyed by many at one of the fires.
Reg DeYoung from Runners RV attended one evening to do a Tech Talk & Q & A. He brought some great prizes for draws for the rally attendees. Reg and his wife also stayed for the cream can dinner.
We had our Annual General Meeting & Election of Officers. New executives were elected. President: Joyce and Bob Jackson and Secretary-Treasurer: Jerry and Dianne Block. We were not able to fill the position of Vice-President so Wayne and Doris Erickson stepped up as Acting VP until the position could be filled at a later date. Committees were formed to create a Klub brochure and one to work on our Klub 25th Anniversary in 2021.
Prior to wrapping up the rally, we had door prizes. Many items were donated once again as we could not do this without the generosity of so many.
It was wonderful to meet up with old friends & make new ones. Now we work on planning our 2020 rally which we hope to have on Vancouver Island.
After the rally was done, your hosts set out on a cross Canada tour focusing on the Maritime Provinces. Most of the time was spent in Newfoundland. This trip was planned as we, the Ericksons and Jacksons, were attending the 34th Annual NKK International Rally in Syracuse, NY on September 30th – October 5th.
We arrived at the New York State Fairgrounds on September 25th as we were volunteers. The rally had so many informative seminars. It is impossible to go to every one but you pick which is of most benefit to you.
The entertainment alone made attending the rally worthwhile. We were entertained by “An Evening with Scythian”, “Bill Lepp”, Band “Rhonda Vincent”, and “Jimmy Travis”.
During the rally, the Ericksons hosted a social hour at their site for the Canadians at the rally. Members from British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario attended. New friendships were formed.
At the rally in Syracuse, John and Kathy Schretlen agreed to assume the duties of Vice-President of the BC Dogwood Klub. Thank you John and Kathy for taking on this position. Our new executive is now complete.
Our next order of business is planning our 2020 rally. Once again we are doing a joint rally with the Provincial Directors. We are a new executive and feel we need their support with organizing a rally. The joint rally will be on Vancouver Island on June 3rd –6th, 2020 at Seal Bay RV Park in Courtenay, British Columbia. Details to follow.
Safe travels everyone.
