Rushmore Roamers – Presidents
Hopefully, everyone is enjoying their winter destinations and staying healthy. While it seems we still have a way to go to get our “normal” back, things are starting to open up. Although the visitor centers in all the national parks we have visited this winter remain closed, most have an open-air kiosk or a park ranger standing outside passing out literature and answering questions. However, the mask is mandated in all public areas and gift shops that remain open. Restrictions in the various states we have passed though vary from mandatory masks in all retail and public buildings to those that only suggest masks be worn. We were able to attend three-chapter rallies in 2021 without any problems and are looking forward to more in 2022.
With spring just around the corner, we are getting excited for the Rushmore Roamers Chapter Rally scheduled June 28-July 1. Some interesting things are in store for those who attend this rally in Mitchell, South Dakota. We have three breakfasts, a potluck arrival dinner (entrée provided), a catered dinner and a restaurant dinner (your choice off the menu and self-pay). We will visit a business that restores any type of horse drawn wagon, carriage or buggy from any condition. They have also built Wells Fargo Stagecoaches, Disney Cinderella Carriages and have an abundant supply of projects underway or in waiting, then tour the World’s only Corn Palace and a pontoon boat ride on Lake Mitchell.
Several other things that may catch your fancy and that can be done on your own all close by, including the Prehistoric Indian Village and Archeological dig, where you would have a good chance of seeing students from a University in England and a local university on an ongoing dig. And, what a great stopover destination on your way to the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
