We wish to welcome Jerry and Sally Conley as our newest members to the Rushmore Roamers Chapter, they are full timing in their Dutch Star. So, pleased to have you join us. To fill you in, Jerry and Sally did go to Jamestown, ND as they were the only couple to sign up for the North/South Dakota and Rushmore Rally that we had cancelled. They decided to go there anyway since that is where they had their registration for that time in June. After enjoying Jamestown, they came down to Sioux Falls, SD. We invited them to our home for an evening along with Joe and Sharon Morrison and Al and Marilyn Harms (Past South Dakota Directors) all from Sioux Falls, SD.
We showed Jerry and Sally some of the highlights of Sioux Falls area they had not seen, such as where Col. Charles Lindberg landed his single engine monoplane at Renner Field in Renner, SD on August 27, 1927; “The Traveling Church” which is the oldest Lutheran Church still in use in South Dakota. The Renner Lutheran Church was rebuilt in 1878 from timbers of a wind-wrecked church three miles south from Baltic, SD, moved to Baltic, SD in 1912 and moved to Renner, SD in 1939. Del and I were married in this church on April 10, 2004 and attend there when we are not off someplace else with our Newmar; USGS (United States Geological Survey’s Center which is the only one in the world and located near Garretson, SD; Nordstrom’s Auto Salvage, they ship used auto parts all over the world. (No, we are not related!!!); Devil’s Gulch the one that Jessie James jumped by Garretson, SD while running from the posse after a failed attempt to rob a bank at Northfield, Minnesota.
Please keep Arnie and Virginia Widmer in your prayers, Arnie is still dealing with cancer. He has had two chemo treatments, had to spend three weeks in the hospital after the last one. He is in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home – 213 N 9th St, Oakes, ND 58474 at the present time.
