Bear & Robin Abraham (22482)
Minnesota State Directors
Bear & I left our Surprise, Arizona winter “home” on April 1 and attended the Arizona Sun Catchers rally in Casa Grande. They had a great turnout, and the Shamrock Dairy Farm and Dwarf Car Museum we visited were interesting and fun. Arizona State Director, Duane Page, presented a cooking demonstration teaching us how to prepare healthy meals on the road using under-utilized appliances like an Instant Pot and a Sous Vide cooker. Thanks Duane; we came away with new ideas.
Rally season is in full swing, and our travel calendar is filled with many opportunities to attend Kountry Klub rallies and explore our beautiful country. We are taking full advantage of our “Magic Carpet Ride.” We hope your travel plans are plentiful as well.
We look forward to attending the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming July 16-23. It is always a pleasure to see Kountry Klub friends from all over the US and Canada once again.
Our Minnesota State Rally takes place August 11-15th in Prior Lake at the Dakotah Meadows RV Park. We are planning a visit to the Mdewakanton Sioux Cultural Center where we will learn about the history, culture, and language of the Dakota people through their eyes. Channeling the inner child in all of us, we will visit Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store. Otherwise known as Jim’s Apple Farm, this family-owned store dates back to the 1930’s and offers 27,000 square feet of merchandise. Candy is the main attraction with 3,000 options to choose from. Also available are specialty sodas in a variety of flavors. You will also find other local Minnesota products like honey, maple syrup, and of course apples from the family’s orchard. We will also be visiting the Chaska Curling Center. Curling’s roots in Minnesota go back to the state’s territorial days when settlers from the British Isles and Canada brought their stones, brooms and the game they loved to their new home. On Christmas Day 1885, the brand new St. Paul Curling Club took to the icy Mississippi River for the first official curling match. Weeks later, teams from Canada and the upper Midwest competed at the inaugural St. Paul Winter Carnival. Curling tournaments, or “bonspiels” have been a staple of every Winter Carnival since. Today Minnesota is home to 26 curling clubs and is well-represented on US curling teams including Olympic Metalists.
The Region Four Rally takes place in beautiful Lanesboro, Minnesota on September 15-18th. We hope to see you there.
