Hey, y’all! In case you missed the memo, IT’S RALLY SEASON! While the 2021 Carolinas State Rally, held at Salem Breeze RV Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was a challenge to plan due to Covid restrictions (a lot of places in North Carolina are still either closed or not conducting tours), it turned out pretty darn good (if I do say so myself) and everybody had a great time. At the Welcome Dinner, the Tarheel Kountry Klub and Palmetto Pals honored Philip Melvin & Becky Gardner, previous State Directors, presenting plaques to Becky and one of Philip’s sons, Bob, for their contribution to the NKK. The following three days, the 29 attendees (15 coaches) enjoyed visits to Reynolda Historic House & Museum, Richard Childress Racing Museum and Mrs. Hanes Hand-Made Moravian Cookies – as well as LOTS of good eats! Thanks to all who contributed in making it a success!
BTW: If you find yourself in that neck of the woods, we highly recommend Salem Breeze RV Park! It’s a quaint little park (about 20 sites), fairly new (finished up the last few camp sites three weeks before our rally), is located in a rural area but close to everything, and is owned by the same gentleman who owns Cool Breeze in Galax, Virginia.
Yet to come as of this writing – but history when this is published – is the Tennessee Volunteer Kruisers/Tarheel Kountry Klub joint rally in Franklin, North Carolina. We have 30 sites booked at The Great Outdoor RV Resort, which is another place we recommend if you’re heading to the western North Carolina mountains … especially if you enjoy gem mining, gorgeous views, peaceful walks/drives in the mountains, a lot of good eats, and relaxation.
While we’re on the recommendation roll, many of you may have experienced “fogging” windows in your coach. The top section of our driver’s window started fogging last year and in discussing it with fellow Newmarians, several referred us to Suncoast Designers in Hudson, Florida. Since we were going to be relatively close to them following the Tampa RV Show, so they could get an early start the next morning. The techs came out bright and early, removed the glass and covered the space (that’s a big hole, y’all) with cardboard and plastic. While we waited, we noticed one of the windows behind the driver’s seat appeared to be starting to fog, so pointed that out when they came to replace the now defogged driver’s window. Sure enough, the second one needed repaired – so they removed it, defogged it, and reinstalled it that afternoon … and it was a Friday afternoon! These folks were GREAT! Everybody there was friendly, very professional, and the price was extremely reasonable.
Okay – one more recommendation and we’re done. If you don’t attend any other rallies this year, you really need to go to the 35th NKK International Rally, July 17–24 at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds in Lewisburg, West Virginia and the Region Five Rally, October 12– 17 at River Vista Mountain Village in Dillard, Georgia. You can thank us later!
As always, please reach out to us if we can answer any questions and/or address any chapter concerns you may have.
Safe travels, y’all … to wherever your Newmar takes you!
