Hey, y’all! In our previous Konnection Magazine article, we referenced the then “upcoming” Tennessee Volunteer Kruisers/Tarheel Kountry Klub joint rally at The Great Outdoors RV Resort in Franklin, North Carolina. Welp, that rally is now history and what a wonderful rally it was! There were FIFTY-NINE rally participants (29 coaches), including 8 First-Timers, two SOB (Some Other Brand) guests, our co-hosts Denny & Sheryn Ward, and of course, us Wandering Webbers. Mike & Polly Gamblin, owners of The Great Outdoors, are amazing to work with and everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Because the best part of this area IS this area, the only planned “group” activity was a day of gem-mining at Cowee Gift Shop and Mason Mountain Mine, which was a huge hit! Each person received a “seeded” bucket of dirt from the mine, and after sifting through it in the fresh spring water sluice, each walked away with 3-4 pounds of gems. Mine owners, Tom & Ginger Johnson, then go through the finds, explaining what each one is (there were a lot of rubies, sapphires, garnet, jasper, amethyst, topaz, aquamarine, and various variations of quartz) and identifying which ones are considered “money rocks”. Several people are even having some of their gems cut and mounted into unique jewelry pieces. Other than that, rally attendees enjoyed the beautiful drives, hikes and waterfalls in the peaceful Smokey Mountains, evenings around campfires/fire pits, a LOT of really good eats, and relaxing with friends, old and new.
The next Carolinas event of 2021 will be the 28th annual Christmas at the Beach Rally at Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina December 7-10. Jim & Carla Miller (Palmetto Pals) and Ray & Kathy Dyer (Tarheel Kountry Klub) are co-hosting the festivities. Keep your eye on the NKK Event Calendar for details and registration.
Between now and then though, we hope we saw you at 35th NKK International Rally, July 17-24 at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds in Lewisburg, West Virginia and the Region Five Rally, October 12-17 at River Vista Mountain Village in Dillard, Georgia.
