Donna Jones (20599)
Peach State Krackers – President
We have been home and off the road since August with only a few short outings in the motorhome and are so ready to hit the road and start our summer travel. We are looking forward to visiting with family and friends, going to some rallies, including The International Rally, and traveling to some places we have not been to before.
While traveling last year we learned a very important lesson on our way back from our summer trip that I would like to pass on to you. We were only 85 miles from home when we had a flat tire. It was our first flat tire on a motorhome. We had tire warranty and roadside assistance but had never used either of them before for a flat tire. We called the vendor for our tire warranty and roadside assistance. The tire warranty company had to give us an approval number before we could proceed with getting a tire. We did not get their approval until the next morning. The roadside assistance vendor finally sent us a tow truck about 4 hours after we called them. The tow truck’s equipment was too small for our size 365 tires and could not tow us but tried several times and damaged the generator exhaust pipe and the generator slide while trying to get the motorhome hooked up to the tow truck.
Know what kind of coverage you have and what it covers. Know what kind of equipment you need to get the repair done or to tow your motorhome. Make sure the vendor you are dealing with understands what you need as well. Don’t depend on the vendor to know everything he needs to know. Talk to the vendor if you must. If we have a flat tire again, we hope we will be better prepared and know what we need and avoid any damage to our motorhome.
We have been making plans for our rally, and it is going to be a great time. The Peach State Krackers Rally will be held in Hiawassee, Georgia September 21-25 at the Bald Mountain Park Camping Resort. We will be taking a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and spending time in McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee, also going over to Mercier Orchards during apple-picking season, and taking a free day to play golf, see some of the sights in the area or just relax at the campground. The campground has putt golf and pedal boat riding for a fee. Things to see and do in the area will be the 49th Annual Fall Regional Shelby/Mustang and Ford Show, Bell Mountain, Lake Chatuge, or just sit back and listen to some good music on the town square in Hiawassee. The rally is full, but still several months until the rally, and there could be some cancellations. Just call me at 352-322-7717 and ask to be put on the waiting list, and I will be happy to add you.
We welcome the newest members to our chapter Joe & Gail Smith from Enterprise, Alabama. We hope to see them at the upcoming rallies.
The Region Five Rally will be held October 23-28 at Creek Fire RV Resort in Savannah, Georgia. The rally is full, but you can call Gary Smith, Region Five Director, and ask to be put on the waiting list.
Information on the rally can be found on the newmarkountryklub.com website.
