As I write this message many of our Pelicans will have already left for their summer destinations bringing to a close our activities for the season. Many great times and wonderful memories have been made. Our club has been very active since our welcome back rally in November. This has taken the efforts of many members. A very special thank you to all of you. The club cannot be successful without its involved members. The participation this season was greater than ever allowing for friendships to grow and lasting memories gained. Besides, you folks make my job fun and satisfying.
Also, many new Newmar owners joined us this year. They are: Mike & Stephanie Wollman, Vince & Louise Wessling, Barry & Catherine Parkoff, Mel & Barb Wroten, Terry & Jodi Deane, Don & Ann Marie Maclean, Don & Edie Sankey, Jan Schuett, Ernie & Shirley Trotter, Steve & Karen Burnette, Emery & Jackie Melanson and Mike & Franciose Dumont. We welcome them into the flock and have truly enjoyed getting to know them as they become involved in our activities. Pat Hartman, you have done so well as Membership Chair, thank you. If you, the reader, are new to the NKK and you have not received an invitation from our club, please contact Pat. We recognize that your mailing address listed in the Konnection could be somewhere up north but you spend the winters in our sunny paradise. We aim to reach out to those of you on that list from Sarasota down the west coast thru the Florida Keys. As we spread our wings and go our separate ways, many of us will cross paths along the way by using our club group site to stay connected. Thanks again Allen & Andy, my IT Guys, for smoothing out this network for us.
Our club continues to have a third Monday of the month luncheon, sampling the different venues in our area. Pat Hartman will keep it going thru the summer as yours truly heads out of Dodge till fall.
On a more personal subject, Roger Mercier, our current Vice President who is a 2001 charter member of the Florida Pelicans, has been a rock and leader to this club. He has hosted rallies over the years and even organized several New England getaways for us during summer and fall. His wife, Emily, should also be credited getting this lobster lover to their New Hampshire area. Roger was hospitalized in early January this year and of this writing (April 14th) is still there. He has lost his right lower leg and all his digits on his left foot. At this point he is in rehab and improving. Well wishes can be sent to Roger & Emily Mercier, at email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
My point for bringing this up is: Roger last year chose to keep his 2001 Mountain Aire but have the side walls replaced at Newmar along with some upgrades to the bus. Throughout his medical dilemma he never gave a thought of giving up RVing. When able to, he started looking at getting modifications to his DP so he could continue on with his Pelican family. Yours truly traveled to Newmar on the day that Indiana set a cold weather record to bring Rogers beautiful coach home. At Newmar, I have to give kudos to Alvin B. and all of his folks, first of all for getting it started and for the wonderful work that was accomplished. Roger will be out there with the Pelicans going forward. With his determination and his positive attitude, he/us will spend many more exciting times together. Roger, your new handle from me is going to be “True Grit”. That’s what we have seen from you.
