My Newsletter Editor, Greg seems to reach out to me for a new article constantly. That’s how the time flies by for some things, but not for others. For COVID, last year crawled by…. However, there was good news at the end of the year with the vaccine introduction. What a great Christmas present for us all.
I found something inspiring just before I started this article. I was looking at my current emails and found this appropriate message. Here it is: ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” John 1:5. May COVID be a thing of the past soon.
Now I had to “hit pause” on this article as my neighbor stopped by with some Christmas sweets and conversation. Connie & I are fortunate to have wonderful neighbors that share and we have Friday evening gatherings weekly.
So now back to my article, “What do I write about?” The Pelicans had their marvelous December Christmas gathering hosted by Carol Hussey with 30+ folks attending. Our dear Pelican friends missing were Bea & Andy Hamor. They are riding out 2020/2021 close to home and their medical team in Michigan. We had seven guests that attended. Neil & Sally O’Reilly, brought 4 guests. They were Dennis & Susan Marotta who just upgraded to a new Ventana and submitted their membership to the Pelicans. Secondly, Mark & Aimee Schlehr who are coachless were also their guests. Neil has got them thinking about a Newmar. We had our first guests attend that found our venue on the Kountry Klub site. Zack & Lucy Taylor joined us for the luncheon and we enjoyed them as well. Someone that I mentioned in my last article, Ronnie & Sharon Jones made it to the warmer climate from Maine to be with us. Lastly, Wanda Childs who was a charter member of the Pelicans back 20 years ago joined us to catch up with old friends that are still going strong. It was significant to spend time with former members and meet new folks.
Some of us Pelicans & Buddies did the annual Disney Fort Wilderness trip in December to see all the RV site decorations and lights. As with all COVID activities, the campground was at about 50% capacity. Yet seeing all the decorations and touring the different Disney Lodges, really helps to put you in the Christmas spirit. Pat Hartman again hosted folks to her Condo with good food and better company.
As of this writing we have no activity planned for February 2021. Our traditional trip to the Plant Strawberry Festival hosted by Pat Hartman in March has many folks signed on. The traditional headliner entertainment is scratched due to last year’s curse. We hope and pray 2021 will bring better times for all of us.
If you’re still following this, Connie & I extend our gratitude and thanks for not being a part of those folks that suffered or lost friends near and close to this 2020 curse on our society. For those folks that have lost their business and those that lost their jobs during this pandemic, may 2021 be a better, brighter and richer year for each of you.
Men, don’t forget your Sweetheart, Wife, Partner as Valentine’s Day is coming due.
Lastly, another shout out to NKK members that are not in a chapter while in the sunshine state, contact Pat Hartman, our membership Chair to join the Pelicans.
To all, here’s wishing you all the very best as we navigate this new year.
