We are working diligently on the final details for another great Gathering in the Desert scheduled for January 18-22, 2023. For any returning attendees, Ted and Ruth Ann Hindes passed the torch for next year’s event. The new rally hosts will be Andrew & Ellyn Meshel and Steve Conant. The official start is for a Wednesday, January 18th arrival. Location: Roadrunner BLM coordinates 114 13 43.67 W 33 35 01.47 N right (West) at La Paz Valley Rd.
The event hosts have changed up the rally schedule since they had so many rigs arriving several days early for the event. For those with Jeeps or 4WD vehicles, we will be holding a two-day pre-rally with a 2-hour excursion each day to some interesting areas, 4-wheeling around Quartzsite. For those interested, they should arrive on Sunday, January 15th with the Jeeping on Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th. We will have a pre-trip meeting for the off-road trips on Sunday and a debriefing after everyone returns from the tours.
As of 12/14/2022, we have 127 rigs signed up and 30+ off road vehicles for the early 4×4 (Sunday 1/15/23) adventure. For those that are planning to attend but have yet to sign up, please do so now. We will have to limit it to 150 rigs this year to accommodate the cooking logistics. We will be accepting a $60 donation to cover the costs for food, singers, and other logistics.
Since the 4×4 early event is going to be attended heavily we will be putting up the Newmar flags on Saturday. We hopefully will be able to split the Jeep group in half to make it more manageable on the trail.
Dinners will be provided on Wednesday thru Saturday night. We will have pizza delivered on Thursday night. On Friday, we will have a chili cook-off with prizes and bragging rights for those who are judged to have the best chili. We have secured two singers to perform out in the desert at our location. We also will have several of our fabulous fires as in previous years. On Saturday 1/21/2023, we will take an excursion to the Desert Bar for those who prefer to avoid the Big Tent on opening day.
Once you sign up, we can send you our recent email blast which will include the details of the gathering including directions, sign-ups for volunteer opportunities, present schedule of events including seminars, local information links and a primer on Dry Camping/Boon-docking 101. We appreciate any volunteers willing to help with all the things that make this event a great time.
We are looking forward to hosting another great gathering with our old friends and the opportunity to meet many new ones.
Your Co-hosts,
Andrew and Ellyn Meshel
Steven Conant
