Lewis & Clark Caravan
Next up will be the rescheduled Lewis & Clark Caravan on July 28-September 14. This schedule allows for 5 travel days from the International Rally location of Lewisburg, West Virginia to St. Charles, Missouri the beginning point of this adventure.
Our caravan will follow the route of the 1804 – 1806 journey of the “Corps of Discovery”, up the Missouri River to its headwaters in western Montana, across the rugged Bitterroot Mountains, and thence down the Columbia River to the Pacific. Our journey will cover just short of 3,000 miles, 17 RV Parks, and have no one-night stays planned.
While the theme of the caravan is the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition, we are planning some great modern adventures along the way. Including two riverboat cruises, a few bus and trolley tours, a jet boat trip up Hells Canyon, as well as many meals. There will be time for exploring on your own, including a National Battlefield, National Parks, the Garden of 1000 Buddhas, and the National Bison Range, various hiking trails, some great golf and swimming opportunities, and the fantastic Route of the Hiawatha bicycle Rails-to-Trail (imagine 17 miles all downhill through tunnels and across trestles, with a bus ride back to the top!).
The caravan will be led by Jeff & Kaynell Zeman and complete details can be viewed on the website. It will be offered first to those that were registered when we cancelled the event for 2020. After those spots are filled we will open to the members on Monday, December 7th at 10:00 am EST.
Country to the Castle
2021 Country to the Castle Special Event is scheduled for June 27-July 13. Our last stop will be about 300 miles from where International will be held. We will start in Memphis, Tennessee with a visit to Elvis’ home and museum. Then on to Nashville attending the Grand Old Opry and a couple of other attractions in the area.
Bowling Green, Kentucky is the next stop to check out the Corvette plant and museum. We will also be in Louisville, Kentucky which is home to the Louisville Slugger baseball bat manufacturing plant and museum, Kentucky Derby museum and we will tour Churchill Downs. Bardstown is a quaint and beautiful town where we will see the Stephen Foster play. Parts of the Bourbon Trail are in this area and you may want to tour that while there. The Kentucky Horse Park will be our next stop with a planned day at the park as well as Keeneland and some of the local horse farms.
We will make a quick stop in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and take in one of the local dinner shows. Our last stop will be Ashville, North Carolina where we visit the Biltmore Estate. This is about 300 miles from Lewisburg, West Virginia where the International will be held just a couple days later. Your hosts will be Jerry & Phyllis Rose.
We will have more information in the upcoming editions of The Happenings, the December issue of the Konnection and thru the Klub Calendar as plans continue to develop. Reservations will open thru the website on Monday, January 4th at 10:00 am EST.
Opening for Reservations in February
Grand Circle Caravan
As most of you know we had to postpone the 2020 Grand Circle Caravan to 2021. The caravan will meet in Mancos, Colorado on September 26 and we will depart Moab, Utah 22 days later on October 18. The time of the year will be better for us as the hot summer days will mostly be gone and the Aspens should be gold by the time we are there. This is such a beautiful time to do this caravan.
You will be in Colorado, Arizona and Utah on this trip. We will start our adventure at Mesa Verde National Park (NP) with its Cliff Dwellings, where 800 years ago tens of thousands of people once lived. While we are still there let’s go to Durango and travel up to Silverton on a bus tour and take the train back down to Durango seeing truly beautiful mountain scenery. Then on to Goulding’s Monument Valley where you will take a ride out into the valley to see the famous monuments you have seen in all those old western movies. John Wayne here we come.
Next in Page, Arizona we will have a narrated boat ride on Lake Powell into tall canyons and between grassy areas of this tremendously deep lake. We will see the Lower Antelope Slot Canyon and view some spectacular sand carvings made by rushing water during the monsoon seasons. A visit to the un-commercialized North Rim of the Grand Canyon NP where you don’t want to miss sunset from the lodge’s porch area. This is where you will see wildlife and fields of those beautiful Aspens. We don’t want you to miss Zion NP where you will look up to see its beauty, and then Bryce NP for a spectacular sunrise as you are looking down at the hoodoos.
We’ll travel to Moab with a short stop in Capital Reef NP. You will be able to explore one day and then the next day you will drive your units through it to Moab, Utah. There is so much to see in Moab, the mecca for off roaders. It offers Arches and, Canyonlands NPs plus Dead Horse Point State Park. You will also enjoy a guided boat ride on the Colorado River in the evening.
We have planned some free days for you to rest and do laundry. We must warn you that there will be extensive walking and not always on flat, level, or paved surfaces. At the cliff dwellings you will need to climb a ladder to exit and at Antelope Canyon there is a metal grate staircase to enter into the canyon. If you are able bodied this should be no problem. Our campgrounds should all have full hook up and 50 amp except one campground which is 30 amp.
This caravan will be led by Jerry & Phyllis Rose. As this was originally scheduled and cancelled in 2020 it will be offered first to those that were registered when we cancelled it. Remaining spots will be opened to members thru our website on Monday, February 15th at 10:00 am EST.

Included in the event will be the Ark Encounter, Creation Museum, a visit to a farm dedicated to retired race horses as well as several other attractions in the area. This is tentatively scheduled for July 24-28 immediately following the International Rally. It will be an easy one day drive to the rally location from Lewisburg.
Since you will be in the area for International we hope you plan on joining this great event! Keep an eye open for the November and December Happenings to read more about this event as details develop. We anticipate reservations will begin on Monday, February 15th, at 10 am EST through the website.
