From the 2009 Region 7 Rally In Essex Junction, Vermont:

Only Region 7 Members Would Gather Around a Fire in July!!

Hello, Hello, Hello

Wow, where to begin?!  The 2009 Region 7 Rally is now history.  Seventy people in 34 rigs all arrived safely in Essex Junction, Vt and stayed from 7/2-7/5.  Every RV received a great gift from Dakin Farms in Vermont.  Our Member at Large, Jim Hagedon and Sue and Arizona State Directors Harold & MaryAnn Starr arrived early and stayed late.  They were a wonderful addition to the entire Rally.

The evening of July 2 gave everyone a chance to meet and greet at the "Snack get together", and oh, by the way, it rained.

July 3rd started with the Directors Pancake Breakfast.  Picture MAL, Jim Hagedon, Arizona State Directors Harold and MaryAnn Starr, Vermont State Directors Stu Codding and Linda Johnston, Connecticut State Directors, Bill & Debbie Smith and Sharon and I all in one kitchen cooking plain and blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon etc., etc., etc.!!

There was free time for sightseeing or just getting together.  Dinner was served at 5 PM followed by Ben & Jerrys ice cream and cookies.  Everyone went to Circus Smirkus.  This is a Circus where all the performers are between 12 & 18 years old coming from all over the world.  The show was so impressive that some of our folks ordered tickets for their families to see the upcoming performances in other towns where the Circus will be going to.  Oh, by the way, it rained!

Saturday started with rain then cleared.  After a huge Continental Breakfast served by Ernie & Joan Griswold #15884L, there were 3 Seminars offered.  At 2:00 PM there was a "Pet Parade".  It included 14 dogs, an African Grey Parrot (named Earle) and a Red Chicken.(that's a story by itself).  What's a parade without music?  Soooo the Region 7 "Kazoo Band" rose to the occassion with the assist of Charles Wheeler #7118 on the fiddle.  All pets received a prize.  All participants and spectators received a stomach ache from laughing so much!

The official judging of the "Best Decorated Gas Motorhome, 5th Wheel, & Diesel Pusher" started at 2:30 PM.  Jim & Sue Hagedon did a great job judging all the units under very difficult conditions. (only one bribe and Jim missed it), so the job was difficult.
Jane Ulewicz #17323 won the Best Gas Motorhome (for the second year) Paul & Kay Mayer #14277L won the best Fiver (second year ) and Bill & Debbie Smith #15570S won the best  Deisel Pusher category.

Ice Cream Social at 3:00 PM make your own Sunday or Banana Split with more Ben & Jerrys ice cream.  A great BBQ Chicken Dinner was served at 6:00PM followed by the Annual Region 7 Fund Raiser Raffle. This year there were over 50 gifts donated by the folks at the Rally, Dakin Farms, & Ballard RV.  We certainly appreciated all their generosity.

The Charity we selected this year is called "Camp Ta-Kum-Ta"  It is a special camp for children from 5-17 to go to for a real kids camping week.  The difference is that they all are fighting Cancer.  Each child has their own fight but this Camp helps their mental and physical well being.  The Camp is run totally by qualified volunteers.  The children spend a normal childs week at Camp under close supervision.  Some actually beat this terrible disease.  Camp Ta-Kum-Ta is a wonderful place and Charity.

A very different thing occurred this year that makes me even more proud to be a Newmar Kountry Klub Member.  Mr. Wade Walker from the Camp came on Sunday morning to accept our donation.  Barbara Wright #12910, announced that the Raffle raised $515.  Then it happened.  Donations started coming from some of the folks.  Then the Connecticut Nutmeggers made a donation and challenge to other states.  Vermont responded in like kind and the total grew to $1100.  Then Russell and JoAnne Merwin matched the $1,100. bringing the total to $2,200.  Other donations continued until the total stopped at $2,500. but not until Russ & JoAnne Merwin made their Pledge an Annual Event to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.  Sharon and I are so thankful all of these people are our friends.  Thank you one and all!

Through the years Region 7 Rallys have donated in excess of $10,000 to various Charities.  Words can not express our sincere appreciaton and pride we have for the Region and for its members.

Sunday is always a difficult day because we head in our own directions with wonderful memories of the past few days.
Sharon and I want to thank MAL Jim & Sue Hagedon for traveling so far to be with us and all their help.  A Region can't operate without its State Directors in this case, Vermont, Connecticut and Arizona.  They never stopped!  Barbara Wright who starts working on this Rally months before it happens, our sincere thanks.

Thank you to ALL the great volunteers that pitch in at the drop of a hat.  And a BigThank You to everyone who came to the Rally.  There were two First Timers and a Guest that came with another Brand.  You folks are the RALLY.  Without you we would have a big room and a lot of food for no reason!

I have left a lot out of this article but it has gotten long.  We look forward to seeing you all at the International in Goshen, Indiana.  It will be another fun time.

Until then,
              Keep er' between the lines,

              Ralph & Sharon
