July Message from theTarheels Chapter

Welcome to July! We’ve personally have a couple of chances to shake off the winter accumulation of dust and to make a few short jaunts to see some places that we’ve not been to before.

Florida in January was really cold and Charleston, SC in March was certainly beautiful but wet. Concord, NC is centrally located for us and certainly noisy if you camp directly across from the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the NASCAR races. Great fun was had by all.

From what I hear from our members, a lot of you are getting ready to take off and enjoy the summer travels to various parts of the United States. Be sure to send a brief trip report to one of your chapter officers so that they can spread the word of great places to see to the other members. If you find new campgrounds or RV parks that you enjoyed, note those as well. There has been a new campground discovered near Cherryville, NC and its information will be included in the monthly newsletter.

Don’t forget to recruit those new members when you notice that your neighbor is sleeping in a Newmar product and they don’t have a Newmar Kountry Klub number on their windshield. There may be a cost savings for new members when joining a chapter in the middle of the year !

One final thought to ponder. If you’ve been thinking about becoming a rally host, chapter officer or even a state director, stand up and hold your hand up high! There is a feeling of power associated with being a rally host. You get to pick your favorite spot and tell people where to go and when to be there. Becoming a chapter officer is great fun and there are always 2 or 3 other people to help carry the load and the responsibilities. I can’t speak for State Directors, but how hard can it be when you have a great support system of chapter officers?

Now, off to our next destination for a little fun and relaxation….Iowa, followed by the Newmar International 25th Anniversary Rally in Goshen, Indiana. This sounds like fun !

June Message from theTarheels Chapter

And the flurry of activities has begun !

We’re assuming that most, if not all, of our snowbirds have traveled back home from their winter nesting spots. I do know that at the writing of this article, we still have one or two stranded birds still in their winter locations due to illnesses and surgeries. To those people, I would like to say “get well soon and join us”.

Depending on the delivery of the Konnection, we will have just completed our chapter rally at the Smithfield (NC) KOA or are ready to begin in the next day or so. The planning of this rally has been a challenge, so I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to my co-host, Deborah Riley. It took some doing to find a campground that has kept up with the times and provided the amenities we were looking for (like a covered, enclosed meeting room). Additionally, just when we thought we had all the details covered, the restaurant we chose for our Saturday evening meal caught fire and burned. These are just minor details to overcome and we hope everyone had a good time.

Now, on to the next rally. Remember, it’s just 2 short months until the 25th Anniversary of the International Rally to be held in Goshen, Indiana. If your reservations are not in, you will need to call the Kountry Klub office to see if there is still room. This will be our first opportunity to attend the international rally so we thought what better time to check it out than the 25th anniversary. It promises to be a great time and I’m anxious to see the quilt.

Just a reminder to those people traveling this summer. When you see a fellow RV’er traveling in a Newmar product, and they are not members of your chapter, what better way to entice them to sign up and join us than to offer them a ½ price membership. Some chapters, including the NC Tarheel Chapter, offer a ½ price membership if you join after July 1st. Let them know how much fun they can have joining in on our rallies and sharing the stories and games.

As always, if you have stories to share from your summer travels or come across an interesting campground, be sure to send the information to any of the chapter officers. We’ll include them in our newsletter and it just might give someone else a hint of a great place to see and enjoy.

Travel safe and we hope to see you in Goshen.
