PANAMA CANAL CRUISE
February 18-28, 2011
Calling all cruisers, calling all cruisers! If you want to park the wheels for a few days and work on your sea-legs we have a great opportunity for all members and friends of the Newmar Kountry Klub.
On February 18th we sail from Fort Lauderdale on the amazing Island Princess of Princess Cruise Lines. This beautiful ship was custom built for the Panama Canal (the new huge ships are too wide) and is a destination in its own right. She boasts a world class art collection, the new Lotus Spa and an adults only on deck retreat called, The Sanctuary. Dining choices include specialty restaurants, Sabatini’s and the Bayou Cafe & Steakhouse, plus Traditional or Anytime Dining. Over 700 cabins have balconies which reflect the latest trends in cruising.
Our itinerary includes three relaxing days at sea plus some of the most popular ports in the Caribbean. First is Aruba, a Dutch jewel with a touch of the tropics. Oranjestad, the capital, boasts a floating market and Nassaustraat is sure to please the most discriminating shoppers. The white sand beaches offer an abundance of water sports and the countryside has the curious divi-divi tree and many unique rock gardens. The port of Cartagena, Columbia, is a shopper’s dream and was once the fortified bastion for the mother lode of emeralds, gold and silver bound for Spain. The wrought iron balconies covered with flowers make it one of the prettiest cities in South America.
The ship does not transit the entire Panama Canal, but goes half way through to Gatun Lake where she makes a strategic stop ideal for sightseeing. From this vantage point you can explore the jungles of Panama or take a train to the Pacific Coast before returning to the Caribbean at the end of the day.
After the Canal you’ll enjoy Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, the friendliest of the Central American countries and popular with many American retirees. Almost like a terrarium, this country boasts nearly half of all the animal species on earth and 8,000 species of plants. Your last port is Ocho Rios, Jamaica, with lush forests, blue-green mountains and white sand beaches which make it one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean..
This eleven day vacation is at a very attractive price. Our travel agent, Edgerton’s, booked a block of cabins several months ago for our members to take advantage of rock bottom prices. Inside cabins are $1,499.00, oceanview at $1,819.00, and balcony cabins start at only $1,999.00. To these rates you must add $201.47 for taxes and fees, but other than that all you need to do is show up.
We all had such a great time in Alaska and Hawaii on past cruises we hope you can join us to the Panama Canal. If you would like to see a brochure call Edgerton’s at 1-800-643-4604. Hope to see you on board.
