It’s hard to believe it’s already August. This has been an eventful summer for the White’s. Bill was diagnosed with a 99% blockage of his carotid artery in July which necessitated surgery in August. Thank goodness prayers work. He is doing great and we plan to be back in our Newmar soon. We will have attended the International Rally by the time this is published.

Our WV State Rally at Beech Fork State Park was a success with Newmar’s from three states attending. We had expected a friend from a fourth state but they had a last minute change of plans. The weather was very hot which limited some of the activities but it was August so that could be expected. Because of Bill’s surgery we were unable to attend the state rally. Many thanks to Jerry and Phyllis Rose, Region Six Directors, for stepping in at the last minute to host the rally for us. They are a wonderful example of the team spirit that makes the Newmar Kountry Klub a success.

We are penning this article after returning from the second great rally in a month. On the third weekend of May, members of the WV Traveling Montani gathered in beautiful Harpers Ferry, in the eastern panhandle of WV, for a busy weekend of exceptional weather, touring, and fun. We camped at the Harpers Ferry KOA, directly adjacent to the Harpers Ferry National Park. On Friday, we boarded the shuttle to historical Old Town Harpers Ferry. A knowledgeable National Park historian gave us a guided tour of the town including the site of the oldest armory of the United States. Walking through town on the original bricks streets, we checked out museums, shops, historical sites, and enjoyed ice cream on a hot, humid day. This was followed by a good evening meal at the Anvil restaurant.

As we write this article, we have completed plans for both our Harper’s Ferry Rally and our WV State Rally. By the time you read this, Harper’s Ferry will be history and I hope everyone will have had a great time.

We got home a couple of months ago from a great trip to Mardi Gras followed by a Cajun Tour, that unfortunately, gave Bill’s weight an unneeded boost.  GREAT food. The tour host cooked for us every night with such great dishes as Shrimp Boil, Crayfish Boil, Fried Catfish, and Seafood Gumbo.

We are already starting to pack the gear for our upcoming rallies under the new Mountain Aire and are eagerly anticipating some great campouts this summer. The four extra feet of storage room really makes a difference. The shakedown cruise showed us that it is a VERY livable coach. It has good power on the road and wonderful comfort when we are in camp. We could live in this one full time if we wanted to.
